DVD Review: Adventures On The Red Plane

An 8 year old boy and his two toy friends go on an imaginary adventure around the world to find and rescue a famous aviator from a book he was given.

Fasten your seatbelts for this fantastical ride across continents and more, based on Enrico Verissimo’s best-selling children’s book, As Aventuras do Avião Vermelho (The Adventures of the Red Aeroplane).

Dubbed in English, this Brazilian cartoon lets a child’s imagination soar as we follow the adventures of troublesome 8 year old Fernandinho, who is given the perfect book by his father. The book is the first in a series that follows the exploits of a fictional famous aviator but when the story is left up in the air, so to speak, Fernandinho knows he must set off to find and rescue the heroic Captain.

RedPlaneDVDTo help him on his way, Fernandinho’s father tells him the secret of a magnifying glass, which makes things bigger one way, but smaller if you look through the other side. With this magic in hand, Fernandinho shrinks himself and his two best toy friends so they can fit into his plastic red aeroplane and begin their journey.

Nominated for both Best Animated Film and Best Children’s Film at the Cinema Brazil Grand Prize, this 2014 animated feature is ideal for the whole family to enjoy together. Under the deft hands of directors Jose Maia and Frederico Pinto, the story is imaginative, exciting and educational.

Our magnificent trio fly to the moon, have an underwater adventure, and land in multiple countries, learning about new words and cultures in Africa, India, China and Russia. Most importantly though, Fernandinho learns about teamwork, overcoming his fears, and the importance of having friends.

Adventures on the Red Plane has an ideal balance of thrills and comedy for young children and, running only 70 minutes, it’s not too taxing on time either. This is one the babysitter won’t mind enjoying over and over and over again too.
