Early Voting Centres open for 2022 South Australian State Election

37 early voting centres open today. COVID affected electors required to quarantine or isolate can apply for a postal vote up until Thursday 17 March.

Early Voting Centres will open this morning across South Australia for eligible voters to cast their vote safely and early in the 2022 State Election. 37 early voting centres will open ahead of the March 19 Election day.

Eligible South Australians have a two-week window to vote early, from today until Friday 18 March 2022.

Operating hours have been expanding for greater convenience. They will be open until 8:00 pm on Thursday March 10 and Thursday 17 March, and on Saturday March 12 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Electoral Commissioner Mick Sherry said early voting centres are now open across South Australia, interstate capital cities and at some overseas consulates and embassies.

“We understand that not everyone can get to a polling booth on election day Saturday 19 March due to circumstances such as work commitments, travel or illness,” Mr Sherry said.

“Voters who are unable to attend a polling booth between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm on Saturday 19 March, may be eligible to vote at an early voting centre.

“Our early voting centres allow eligible South Australians the opportunity to vote safely over the two weeks before the State Election on Saturday 19 March.

“We encourage eligible voters to plan ahead and choose an appropriate time in that two-week period to vote in-person at one of the 37 early voting centres across the state.

“Voters can either download or use their mySA GOV app to access the new SA State Election 2022 app to check on wait times and save time at the polling booth. We also encouraging voters to bring their EasyVote card to have their details quickly marked off the electoral roll.”

Early voting centres will be closed state-wide on Monday 14 March due to the Adelaide Cup public holiday.

Mr Sherry said South Australians should feel safe and confident to attend an early voting centre with additional COVID-safe measures in place.

“All early voting centres and polling booths will have socially distanced queues, sanitisation stations, mandatory mask-wearing, single-use pencils, fully vaccinated electoral officials and hygiene and density control officers in place,” he said.

COVID affected electors required to quarantine or isolate can apply for a postal vote up until Thursday 17 March. From Thursday 17 March to election day on Saturday 19 March, electors who are COVID-positive, a close contact, or have COVID symptoms can register to collect a voting pack at selected PCR or RAT collection sites.

You can find your nearest early voting centre on the ECSA website or by updating the mySA GOV app and downloading the new SA State Election 2022 feature.

The updated app allows voters to search for their nearest early voting centre or polling booths, displays current wait times and candidates for each district.

Eligible voters who wish to apply for a postal vote have until 5 pm on Thursday 17 March to do so.
