Easter Camping Kept Alive With ‘Camp at Home Heroes’ Initiative

Easter camping may be cancelled for over 300,000 Australians, but ‘Camp at Home Heroes’ initiative is here to keep the spirit of camping alive this weekend.

Easter camping has been cancelled this year due to Covid-19 restrictions, leaving over 300,000 Australians stuck indoors. However, the Caravan Industry Association of Australia is determined to keep the spirit of camping alive with ‘Camp at Home Heroes’ initiative.

Couples, families and housemates are being encouraged to set up camp in their backyards, living rooms, and even balconies as part of the Association’s initiative.

Camp at Home Heroes is designed to allow Australians of all ages to engage in fun camping activities at home, and to share these experiences via social media to engage with fellow at-home campers.

Caravanning and camping is proven to provide many physical and psychological benefits – and in these challenging times, these benefits are as vital as ever.

Caravan Industry Association of Australia’s Real Richness Report examined the benefits of the caravan and camping lifestyle, and the results revealed a myriad of positive benefits:

  •  95% of campers believe that camping reduces stress
  • 93% of campers believe it brings families closer together
  • 96% of campers believe camping can make you happier

For those who might also be home-schooling children at the moment or looking for educational opportunities, a backyard camping trip can also offer fantastic lessons for kids.

The tourism industry has been hit hard in 2020 – first by the devastating bushfire season, and now by the COVID-19 pandemic. Through Camp at Home Heroes, we can support and promote the industry while still being socially responsible.

To get involved, families are encouraged to visit the Let’s Go Caravan and Camping Facebook page for competitions and tips to camp at home and to share videos / images with the tag #holidayathome #campathomeheroes.
