Ebony Marinoff named AFLCA AFLW Champion Player of the Year

Star Adelaide midfielder Ebony Marinoff has claimed the AFL Coaches Association AFLW Champion Player of the Year following her outstanding 2024 campaign.

Star Adelaide midfielder Ebony Marinoff has been awarded the AFL Coaches Association AFLW Champion Player of the Year for her outstanding performance during the 2024 season.

Marinoff showcased her exceptional skills and consistency by polling votes in every game, earning perfect scores of 10 in Weeks Six, Seven, and Eight.

She topped the leaderboard with a total of 91 votes, outshining North Melbourne’s Jasmine Garner (79 votes) and Ashleigh Riddell (77 votes).

This prestigious award, determined by the AFLW senior coaches on a5-4-3-2-1 voting basis after each home and away match, recognizes individual excellence in the league.

At just 26 years old, Marinoff co-captained the Crows alongside Sarah Allan, marking what has been a career-best season for the talented midfielder.

In an impressive display of her skills, Marinoff averaged a league-high 30.4 disposals,12.4 tackles, and a career-high 6.5 clearances throughout the season. She also made history by becoming the first player in AFLW to achieve 2000 career disposals during Week Seven.

Marinoff’s dedication and performance have solidified her status as one of the league’s premier players.

AFL Coaches Association CEO Alistair Nicholson congratulated Marinoff on the achievement.

“Ebony has performed to an incredibly high level this season to win her first AFL Coaches Association AFLW Champion Player of the Year Award, to poll votes in every match and three perfect tens is an amazing effort,” Nicholson said.

“The coaches have a unique perspective on what succeeds in each of the games which combined with the thought that goes into allocating the votes makes this one of the most prestigious of all the individual Awards.

“Ebony should be very proud to receive this Award from the coaches, congratulations Ebony.”

Crows Senior Coach Matthew Clarke said he was proud to see Marinoff recognised by opposition coaches.

“Ebony is such an important player and leader for us and very deserving of recognition for what has been an outstanding season so far,” Clarke said.

“Her consistency has been impressive, and she works extremely hard to improve herself and her teammates.

“We know that what drives Ebony most is team success and we are excited to see her continue her great form in the upcoming finals series.”
