eftpos 2012 Giveback Campaign Helping Vision-Impaired Australians

This November eftpos was joined by some special four-legged friends to launch its 2012 Giveback campaign, which aims to donate up to $1 million to Vision Australia towards the construction of a new national Seeing Eye Dog training centre.

Accompanied by representatives from Vision Australia and several Seeing Eye Dogs in Melbourne’s CBD, eftpos CEO Bruce Mansfield said the new centre should have a lasting community benefit by allowing more dogs to be trained and matched with Australians who are blind or have low vision.

Mr Mansfield said eftpos Giveback advertising would start this weekend, encouraging Australian consumers to get behind the campaign in the lead up to Christmas, simply by pressing CHQ or SAV at the checkout.

“Now in its second year, we are very pleased to continue the eftpos Giveback Christmas tradition by assisting Vision Australia to fulfil its long-time ambition to build this new, world-class centre,” Mr Mansfield said.  “As a result, Vision Australia will be able to start construction on the new centre before Christmas.”

Vision Australia’s General Manager of Seeing Eye Dogs and Mobility, Leigh Garwood, said that once the new development in Kensington, Victoria, was complete, they would be able to match 100 people each year with a Seeing Eye Dog – an increase from the current 45.

Mr Garwood said the facility would improve the lives of many Australians who are blind or have low vision who are currently on long waiting lists to be matched to trained Seeing Eye Dogs.

During the launch, Mr Garwood and Vision Australia Ambassador and former Paralympian, Gerrard Gosens, demonstrated how simple it was for Australians to get behind the eftpos Giveback campaign with the help of a special, four-legged friend.

“Eadie, one of our retired Seeing Eye Dogs, has been busily learning how to press CHQ or SAV at the checkout,” Mr Garwood said. “If Eadie can do it, then so can you.”

To support the eftpos campaign, simply press CHQ or SAV at the checkout.  The donation amount will depend on eftpos transaction volume achieved during the eftpos Giveback period, up to $1,000,000.
