Interview: Elen Levon Still Dancing To The Same Song

Following on from singles ‘Naughty’ and ‘Like a Girl in Love’, 18 year old Australian popette Elen Levon has readied her latest hit, the uber-catchy ‘Dancing to the Same Song’. Haven’t heard it yet? Check out the just released music video here.

Written with US frat-pop duo 3OH!3 and produced by Mark Maxwell, ‘Dancing to the Same Song’ steps away from the urban and club sounds of her previous singles, shooting Levon straight into P!nk and Katy Perry-style power pop.

On working with 3OH!3, Levon says “I didn’t really have reservations working with them. No one was saying ‘Don’t do this, don’t do that’. We just wanted to go into the studio together with the intention of making a hit, and whatever would come out of the sessions would be it.”

“Our producer Mark [Maxwell] played some beats for us and we literally just sung over the top of it and the song came from. It just happened out of 3 or so days of us mucking around and winding up with a great song,” she says.

Signed to Ministry of Sound at 17 and touring with names like 50 Cent, G-Unit and Lil’ Kim (not to mention a role in Australian television drama Slide), Levon’s already chalked up an impressive resume for herself, and doesn’t feel like she’s missing out on the ‘normal’ things her friends do while she’s busy in the studio.

“I feel that being young in the music industry gives me the best of both worlds,” she says.

“Being younger is more motivating than anything. There’s a lot of pressure for me do things right because I have been lucky enough to start so young. I just need to keep going at it and keeping trying to make it big.”

After performing in Adelaide with Stan Walker at Apple Bar, Levon is more than keen to come back to the City of Churches.

"I love performing in Adelaide! Who says it's a small, sleepy town? The vibe from the clubs is amazing. I always have so much fun coming to Adelaide, it seems like the clubbers really take it seriously [laughs]"

‘Dancing to the Same Song’ is available now via Ministry of Sound.
