After a remarkable three-year journey, Eleven on Waymouth Street served its last meals under its fine dining label on Saturday night, closing the chapter on what has been a notable venture in Adelaide’s culinary scene. The establishment, which opened during the challenging conditions of the 2020 pandemic, earned acclaim for its superior dining and extensive wine list.

Earlier in May, Glam Adelaide reported that the restaurant would undergo a significant transformation. The upcoming changes have now been outlined by co-owner Themis Chryssidis in a recent post on social media, revealing both the new name and concept for the restaurant. Eleven will be rebranded as Roma Restaurant, Deli & Piazza, marking a shift towards a more casual dining experience.

Chryssidis shared his reflections and gratitude in his post. He said “eleven was our first ever attempt at operating a restaurant and I genuinely I couldn’t be more proud of what we achieved. It was loved by many, and it will always hold a soft spot in my heart. An enormous, thank you to all those staff who made eleven possible both past and present. Without your hard work, team work and commitment eleven would not have been possible. To the beautiful guests who frequented eleven, thank you. We genuinely appreciate you spending some of your valuable time and money a with us. To @jasminevecchiotti and Leni, thank you for your support, belief and patience as we emabarked on something new in 2020 and then navigated the challenges that only hospitality industry could throw at you. To my business partner Callum Hahn, thanks for your incredible hard work, trust and commitment to eleven and the whole group. To my friends and family who visited eleven on numerous occasions, thank you thank you thank you. I can’t wait to welcome you to Roma. This is the end of something special but the start of something exciting. Something we dreamt of creating when we first moved to 11 Waymouth St in 2020 and now our vision finally becomes a reality. Roma is a casual, fun, inviting alfresco dining experience in the heart of the city. A venue where the space and our surroundings are critical to who we are. A space in the city where you can meet with friends, family, and colleagues and enjoy a delicious meal in our restaurant, or drinks and snacks in our Rome inspired piazza. Roma has arrived!

Roma Restaurant & Deli promises to offer a unique dining setting which makes the most of the venues incredible piazza area that encourages diners to relish meals in a vibrant, outdoor environment. The new direction focuses on the integration of space and environment as core elements of the dining experience.

The rebranding and new concept were driven by contextual changes in the dining scene and the Waymouth Street precinct. Recent developments, including the construction of the Marriott Hotel adjacent to the original Eleven premises, catalysed this shift. The completion of the Marriott Hotel and enhanced access routes from King William and Franklin Streets are expected to increase pedestrian flow, potentially benefiting Roma Restaurant & Deli.

The team behind Eleven have shared that their commitment to Adelaide’s dining scene remains solid, as they are expanding their footprint in the area with additional tenancy.

Roma Restaurant & Deli is set to open its doors on August 28, replacing Eleven’s fine dining concept with a more relaxed atmosphere that still aims to celebrate high-quality food and service. As Eleven closes, the team looks forward to welcoming both old and new patrons to experience and build new connections at Roma, turning the venue into a new culinary hotspot in Adelaide.
