Curvy folks of Adelaide, get ready to shop til’ you drop- the Double Plus Size Fashion Market is making a third return, and this one will be bigger and better than ever.
For one day only, you can browse more than 50 stalls at the rent-a-rack market, where plus size folks will be selling beautiful pre-loved clothes.
Taking place at the Adelaide Croatian Club in Brompton, Double founder Lauren Khabbaz said this is the first plus size fashion market in South Australia and knows of just three others in Australia.
“We are the only ones doing this (in SA) at the moment, there is a lot of pre loved and recycled fashion markets and also rent-a-rack stores, but none that focus on plus size fashion,” she says.
“It is a really nice community event where we have brought together the plus size community of Adelaide who might have previously not felt like they had been part of a community before.”
“There are plenty of plus size folks in Adelaide that need and deserve access to clothing, and clothing that is affordable, because pre-loved clothing is often more affordable than buying brand new.”
“And plus size people are just as focused on environmental issues as everyone else, so it will be great for plus size people who want to move away from the fast fashion landscape and on to environmentally focused options.”
“We see every day lots of exciting things going on in the fashion landscape, but if you’re a plus size person you don’t often see yourself reflected and included in the fashion industry.”
“Not only has it broadened the fashion landscape, but it has broadened the community for plus size people and created and fostered a place where we all feel safe, welcomed, and a space that is just for us.”

Along with pre-loved fashion, shoppers can expect to find vintages traders, a handful of beautiful new plus size garments created by ethical labels and a small handful of accessories.
Amongst these are Adelaide-based label Curvature Fashion, plus size activewear label Be Keane and Melbourne label Embracing Bella.
“A lot of plus size people are forced to shop online for these special bespoke items, but they don’t get to try them on, they don’t get the shopping experience. People just want to be able to try things on in real life, that is a huge thing for the plus size community,” Lauren says.
The Croatian Club will cook up a Croatian barbecue, What The Croque will serve French toasties and coffee and Gg’s cupcakery will be baking their all-vegan cupcakes.
Visit the Double Instagram page and you will see a diverse range of posts celebrating the plus-size community.
“It is about celebrating diverse bodies and inclusivity, it is a community and space free from any bullying and harassment. We welcome all folks from all walks of life. The whole idea of Double is that it is a welcoming and comfortable community,” she says.
“We don’t tolerate any type of bigoted behaviours, anyone, whatever their background, whoever they are, whatever their sexuality, whatever their life journey, we don’t exclude anyone, we celebrate their differences.”
“We started for love of fashion and inclusivity but we are branching out to events, doing wonderful everyday things that sometimes aren’t as accessible. Creating a wonderful and safe community space is something I am very passionate about.”
