Embrace Your Face campaign looks to celebrate what makes everyone unique and special

The Embrace Your Face campaign looks to celebrate what makes people unique while raising awareness of craniofacial differences.

A campaign celebrating what makes people unique while raising awareness of craniofacial differences.

The ‘Embrace Your Face’ campaign is a team of craniofacial patients joining forces with Craniofacial Australia and becoming ambassadors to show their unique journey across a series of billboards in Adelaide.

The campaign is also about celebrating what makes everyone unique and special.

Undergoing over 15 craniofacial surgeries, Embrace Your Face ambassador, Selva was born with a rare craniofacial cleft and knows the importance of embracing your face.

“Some of the complications for children with a rare craniofacial cleft include trouble eating and breathing, making life impossibly difficult,” Selva said.

“It can also affect the face and head along with bones and soft tissue.”

Selva was born in 1983 and due to the complexity of his case, none of the surgeons in Malaysia, where he was born, had the expertise to treat him.

Then on an off chance, a meeting gave Selva and his family a glimmer of hope.

Professor David David told my parents that he would help me in Australia with a series of surgeries,” Selva said.

“Often people with craniofacial differences can feel isolated, alone and experience bullying. We hope this campaign can help people embrace what makes them different and advocates for inclusion and understanding of those differences.

“The ‘Embrace your Face’ campaign celebrates how everyone is unique. People with craniofacial deformities are even more unique and I think everyone needs to embrace that.”

Craniofacial Australia was founded by craniofacial surgeon, Professor David David AC, and is dedicated to helping people with genetic craniofacial defects, cancerous growths and those who have suffered disfigurement through trauma.

People can donate to the campaign, with all funds going directly to patient care.
