The Old Scholar has identified the continuous struggle young designers face when starting out in the fashion industry, and in response is launching an innovative social media campaign to leverage and promote the designers and their labels.
Buyer and Head Stylist for The Old Scholar – Micaela Nantes says, “Many young designers struggle to get their label known and sold when they launch on to the fashion scene, so we thought we’d give them the opportunity and support they deserve to establish their brand and get recognised by both the wider community and fashion industry.”
The ‘Be Discovered’ campaign will run on The Old Scholar Facebook, and young designers will have the opportunity to upload a photo of the best piece of their collection with a short description, to be voted on by fans of The Old Scholar’s page.
Entrants will receive votes in the form of ‘likes’ from other fans of The Old Scholar page, and the top three with the most ‘likes’ will form the three finalists. The Old Scholar will then announce the winner who will have their collection manufactured and sold on The Old Scholar website, valued at over $60,000.00.
The winner will also be exclusively marketed by The Old Scholar for a year, who will act as an agent for them to potential buyers and retail outlets.
“For a designer this is the opportunity of a lifetime; to have their collection not only manufactured but sold at a new online store, and to have that store act as an agent is a unique concept and one that we believe will prove very popular with fashion fans and designers alike,” Ms Nantes says.
Finalists will also be rewarded for their efforts, each receiving a $500.00 voucher to use at The Old Scholar.
The competition officially launches 14 November 2011, with finalists to be announced 9 December 2011, and the ultimate winner declared 14 December 2011.
