Emirates soars back to Adelaide with daily direct flights

The State Government has announced Emirates will once again fly direct to Adelaide – generating a multi-million-dollar boost to tourism and trade.

Adelaidians will see more Emirates planes in the sky as the airlines resumes daily direct flights to Adelaide this month after reducing it’s services due to the pandemic.

From October 28th, Emirates will reintroduce direct daily flights connecting Dubai and Adelaide on the reliable Boeing 777-200LR aircraft.

The reintroduction of Emirates flights stands as a pivotal milestone in South Australia’s economic rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic, with the potential to inject an estimated $160 million into the local economy through increased tourism and freight exports, ultimately translating into job creation.

Emirates’ daily direct flights are forecasted to generate a whopping $62 million in annual tourism expenditure alone, nurturing over 315 full-time equivalent tourism-related jobs within South Australia.

Emirates first graced Adelaide’s skies in 2012 and, in 2019, ferried more than 165,000 passengers between Dubai and Adelaide. However, the service came to a temporary halt in March 2020 following the outbreak of the global pandemic. Now, as the world gradually reopens its borders, Adelaide rejoices in the return of this iconic airline.

“Reinstating Emirates flights to Adelaide has been a key priority for the State Government,” Premier Peter Malinauskas said.

“Emirates once again flying daily direct into Adelaide will further drive South Australia’s economic growth – set to deliver an estimated $160 million in tourism expenditure and freight exports and create more than 315 full-time tourism-related jobs for South Australians.

“The Emirates service has been very much missed by South Australians – recommencing daily flights will make Adelaide easier to reach from key long-haul markets and make doing business with our state easier.”

Beyond passenger travel, each flight will provide a generous 14 tonnes of cargo space, amounting to a total of 196 tonnes weekly, facilitating the movement of goods between Dubai and Adelaide, with an estimated value of $98 million per year.

With an extensive network of over 140 destinations globally, Emirates will reestablish vital air connections for Adelaide, ensuring seamless travel from the Middle East, the UK, Europe, India, and the eastern United States. This renewed accessibility promises to unlock unprecedented opportunities for both leisure and business guests.

“This is a major recovery milestone for our state’s tourism industry, providing a crucial link into South Australia’s traditionally strong European markets, as well as the UK, Middle East, India, and the east coast of the US,” Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison

“The reinstatement of direct daily Emirates flights into Adelaide is expected to generate more than $62 million in tourism expenditure alone – a major boost to our state’s visitor economy.

“It is exciting that South Australia will once again feature in Emirates’ global marketing programs, getting more eyes around the world on SA and helping drive an increase in visitors to our state.”

Operating on the Boeing 777-200LR aircraft, passengers can expect a luxurious journey with 38 Business Class seats alongside 264 seats in Economy Class. The relaunched service boasts a total of 302 seats per flight and over 4,200 weekly seats connecting Dubai and Adelaide.

The flight schedule is meticulously designed to connect passengers with Emirates’ prime European arrival and departure times, ensuring a seamless travel experience with optimal connections of less than four hours. This new schedule is set to redefine convenience for South Australians and globetrotters from abroad alike.

Emirates’ triumphant return will elevate Adelaide’s international connectivity, making it the destination of choice for an even broader range of global passengers. With Emirates joining the ranks of international airlines serving Adelaide, the city will now boast connections to ten major airlines, solidifying its position on the world travel map.

“The return of Emirates to Adelaide has been highly anticipated by passengers and
industry for some time,” Barry Brown, Emirates Divisional Vice President Australasia said.

“We are equally as excited to again service South Australia and provide the state with opportunities across leisure, culture and tourism and support trade growth.”
