Emotion is Dead is an upcoming independent film being made by writer-director, Pete Williams, known for the Making Their Mark series on Amazon Prime, The New Breed (2020) and short-form television series Makers (2015) which was broadcast on Channel 4 in the U.K.
Williams describes the film as Donnie Darko (2001) crossed with Snowtown (2011) meets Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite (2019).
The filmmakers are shooting a scene in the Cry Baby nightclub on January 8, but they’re after Adelaide’s hard-rockin’, head bangin’ punks to come out in full force and become stars on the silver screen.
You can order a ticket through Eventbrite and bring your dirtbag punk aesthetic to the cast of extras, which will also entitle you to a feature film name credit and two tickets to the cast and crew world premiere.
Shooting will take place between 10am and 2pm on Sunday, with a 100-person capacity and high demand to star in the film. A local emo/punk band will be blaring during the scene, so if you’re familiar with the Enigma Bar or the Lions Art Factory, with weeping black eyeliner and platform shoes, you might have to wake up early.
The crew have strived to make ‘the most South Australian film ever,’ including SA icons such as Popeye, The Big Rocking Horse, the Holden Factory and West End Beer.
Shooting has been ongoing for 18 months, typically on weekends and school holidays, with the angsty project anticipating a release in March this year. The crew have been keen to submit the film for international film festivals such as Cannes, Sundance and Toronto.
From Glenelg to Stirling, Adelaide University and the Botanic Gardens, this epic story of 19-year-old Brock and his chain-smoking, V8-driving mum Shazza, is sure to be the stuff of Adelaide legend.
If you think that you’ve got what it takes to arrive in anarchistic attire and raise hell…
If you cried when My Chemical Romance broke up…
If you can actually remember a Panic at the Disco song title, in all its verbose glory…
You can be a part of a film which will no-doubt rival Bad Boy Bubby (1993) as the film to show your mates when they ask about films shot in the area we call home.
Tickets are available through Eventbrite here and you can check out the acclaimed work of Pete Williams and cinematographer Johanis Lyons-Reid through their respective websites.
