Entries now open for Australian distillers to apply to Tasting Australia Spirit Awards 2024

The Tasting Australia Spirit Awards 2024 have commenced, offering Australian distillers a chance to earn national recognition across 11 categories.

The seventh annual Tasting Australia Spirit Awards have officially commenced, inviting distillers from across Australia to participate. This event offers national recognition and provides an exceptional platform for distillers to showcase their craftsmanship. Entries opened on the 17th of June and will close on the 26th of July 2024.

This year, the Tasting Australia Spirit Awards are presenting 11 diverse categories for entry. Distillers have the opportunity to have their products scrutinised and evaluated by a panel of industry elites including Krystal Hart from Campari Academy Australia and notable drinks writer Fred Siggins. Bill Lark, a legendary figure in the Tasmanian distilling scene, will continue his involvement as the Spirit Awards Patron, contributing his vast expertise to the event.

The presentation of the awards is scheduled for the 28th of August in Adelaide, where gold medal winners will be announced. These winners will also feature in the upcoming Tasting Australia festival, sponsored by RAA Travel in the autumn of 2025. The festival promises to integrate the champion spirits into its events and drinks programming, providing further exposure and consumer engagement for the winners.

A new addition to this year’s event schedule is the Industry Tasting event, set for the 29th of August. This will follow the awards night and provide an opportunity for attendees to sample all entries and compare them with the category winners, thereby setting a benchmark in quality and innovation in the industry.

Zoe Bettison, the South Australian Minister for Tourism, shared, “This year’s edition of Tasting Australia saw record attendance and we are excited to continue that momentum into the 2024 Tasting Australia Spirit Awards. Since the awards began seven years ago, we have seen the country’s distilling industry grow exponentially, with South Australian producers leading the way and helping showcase our state’s premium products on a national stage.”

The Spirit Awards also provide a pivotal platform for distillers to receive critical feedback, connect with their peers, and present their products to key figures in the hospitality and liquor industry. Ollie Margan, serving as the Head Judge for the awards, remarked on the significance of the event in fostering innovation and excellence among Australian distillers. He commented, “It’s so inspiring to see what distillers of Australia are capable of. Competitions like the Tasting Australia Spirit Kings Awards celebrate, acknowledge and inspire innovation amongst distillers. This is a valuable opportunity for distillers to connect, benchmark themselves against their peers, and get their product in front of industry leaders and experts.”
