A local community fundraiser is planning an epic bike ride across Australia, visiting 22 Capes and raising $22,000 for women experiencing homelessness at Catherine House.
Kym, a 68-year-old residing in the Adelaide Hills, is no stranger to fundraising for Catherine House, having raised over $5,000 last year through riding from Hindmarsh Island (SA) to Thursday Island (QLD), a 4000km ride collecting donations to support women experiencing homelessness. His only setback was a broken leg, and despite that, he recovered and soldiered on!
Kym will set off on his 2022 journey from Catherine House on Wednesday 8th of March with his first stop being Cape Catastrophe, and his last being Cape Spencer. He will ride up to 15 hours on any given day, starting each night typically with a swag underneath a tree! He proudly wears his Catherine House t-shirt on his ride, handing out details to his fundraising page to passer-by’s and when he stops into local towns.
Jaylee Cooper, Catherine House Manager of Fundraising, Events and Marketing, said: “We are absolutely thrilled Kym is embarking on this epic fundraising ride in support of Catherine House once again. Kym is passionate about raising funds and awareness for the work of Catherine House. It really does mean so much to the women who need our services to know that they have support from the community.”
All funds raised from Kym’s ride will support the Catherine House Crisis Accommodation Service, the first and only homelessness service for women experiencing homelessness in Australia.
Kym hopes to complete the ride in October, taking approximately 7 months of riding across the country. His fundraising page to support can be viewed here: https://kyms-ride-for-catherine-house-2022.raisely.com/
