Escape to Japan with an unforgettable all-you-can-eat menu in Adelaide, perfect for large groups

Experience authentic Japanese dining in Adelaide with an incredible all-you-can-eat menu offering over 80 dishes, including Wagyu beef, sashimi, and sushi.

When I returned from Japan earlier this year, I couldn’t shake the memories of the food. The clean, fresh flavours, vibrant colours, and delicate presentation all left a lasting impression. Japan isn’t just a country you visit, it’s an experience you feel, and the food is a big part of that.

Since my trip, I’ve been searching for a Japanese restaurant that would instantly teleport me back. Luckily, I didn’t have to look far.

On a cold, rainy night in Adelaide, we decided to visit Itsumo Japanese Restaurant & Izakaya Bar, a place that seemed to promise just that—a chance to travel back to Japan without leaving the city.

As we strolled through the city streets, the reflections of the lights on the wet pavement created that big-city vibe, instantly transporting me back to those chilly winter walks through Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Itsumo Japanese Restaurant & Izakaya Bar is the kind of place where, as soon as you step inside, you feel welcome and excited about what’s to come. The gentle hum of conversations, the soft lighting—it all feels familiar, like you’ve walked into a cosy spot in Harajuku. Two hosts dressed in traditional kimono greeted us warmly, adding a beautiful touch of authenticity right from the start.

We were guided to a traditional section of the restaurant, where you remove your shoes before entering—just like you would in Japan. As we walked through, we crossed a threshold of perfectly raked Japanese sand art and sliding paper doors depicting serene garden scenes. The seating was traditional too, with low chairs designed for comfort. It was peaceful, intimate, and incredibly immersive.

For those who don’t want to sit on traditional Japanese seating there is a western dining room.

But it’s the food that really sets this restaurant apart, with its attention to detail and the quality of each dish.

In addition to the amazing a la carte menu there is an all-you-can-eat menu that is a feast for the senses, with over 80 dishes to choose from. There’s fresh sashimi, sushi, tempura, ramen, Wagyu beef, and even rich, flavourful hot pot. It’s the kind of dining experience that keeps on giving, with something new and exciting to try at every turn.

They have recently upgraded the all-you-can-eat offering to include Sashimi Grade raw whelk meat slice and blood clam meat, as well as many more delicious desserts, ice creams and ice blocks. My favourites were the Matcha Cream Brulee and the Black Seasame Ice Cream.

One standout dish was the locally sourced Wagyu rump tataki. Thinly sliced, perfectly seared Wagyu was served with a tangy shallot dressing, wasabi, and a refreshing bite of white radish and ginger. It was so tender it melted in my mouth, and the flavours were perfectly balanced. Another favourite was the pan-fried gyoza. The crispy, golden exterior gave way to a juicy filling of pork and cabbage, striking a lovely balance of savoury and slightly sweet.

For something truly warming, we tried the Sukiyaki broth hot pot. Full of depth and umami from the soy sauce, it was perfect for a chilly night. It came with thinly sliced Wagyu, seasonal vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, and Konnyaku (gelatinous Japanese cake) and Shirataki noodles. Cooking the ingredients at the table over a small flame added an interactive element to the meal, and the warmth of the soup was comforting and moreish.

For a true showstopper, don’t miss the Miyako Funamori Sushi Boat. The boat comes with fresh oysters, prawns, scallops, salmon, kingfish, and local tuna. It’s an absolutely stunning platter and a great way to experience a variety of seafood.

The experience really is unforgettable, and that’s what makes this place so special. From the interactivity of the hot pot to the theatrical presentation of the sushi boats, every element is designed to make dining fun and engaging. It’s the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy yourself, and try new things without worrying about hidden costs.

And here’s the best part, everything on the menu is included for only $78 per person as part of the all-you-can-eat offering.

The set price means there are no surprises, and you can order exactly what you want without worrying about asking for the check at the end of the meal. Whether you’re dining with family, friends, or clients, it’s unbelievable value for what you get.

With exceptional service, a great atmosphere, and food that tastes as good as it looks, Itsumo Japanese Restaurant & Izakaya Bar has truly captured the essence of Japanese dining.

It’s clear that this restaurant is a great place for every kind of gathering. Whether you’re planning a romantic dinner, a family get-together, or a business lunch, this place ticks all the boxes.

There’s even a private room that seats up to 40 people, complete with stunning views of Parliament House and a projector screen for presentations.

It’s perfect for any occasion, whether it’s a special birthday or a corporate function, they can cater to whatever you need.

If you’ve been craving an authentic Japanese experience, look no further. This place is right here in Adelaide, and I’ll definitely be back for another unforgettable meal. We’re even planning a birthday event in the traditional reserved dining suite.
