Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for a European tour!
Eurodiva is a ‘Cabaret Spectacular’ that transports you to the other side of the globe to celebrate the European Divas of the past century. This local Italo-Australian diva, Teresa De Gennaro, is back from the UK to take us on a guided personal tour from country to country. She introduces and reunites us with amazing women, by sharing their stories and re-living their songs.
Added to this, Teresa also sings in 10 different languages: Italian, Spanish, Portugese, German, Greek, Serbian, English, Hebrew and Arabic. And, yes, there are subtitles! The smorgasbord of European artists include Marlene Dietrich, Edith Piaf, Dalida, Ceca, Mina, Raffaella Carra’, Paloma San Basilio, Nana Mouskouri, Shirley Bassey, plus many more.
Eurodiva is a celebration that will satisfy all tastes: lovers of world music, all generations of migrants, Eurovision fans who appreciate the quirk, glamour and drama of that wonderful annual song contest and especially to the Italian Community as there are many songs and stories pertaining to Italy. Living and working in Rome, London and the Greek Islands is what inspired Teresa to write Eurodiva: “I also traveled a lot throughout Europe and was exposed to some amazing female artists. I wanted to share my appreciation of them with Australian audiences.”
With many years as a cabaret singer and actress, Teresa has a strong ability to tell a story, interpret songs and interact intimately with an audience. Drawing on her natural comedic ability and vast experiences in musical comedy, Eurodiva results in an evening of entertainment that is bold, lighthearted and, ultimately, FUN!
Her 7 piece band consists of Adelaide Conservatorium graduates who between themselves have performed interstate and internationally.” Teresa says the band is, “Awesome! They’re all so talented and sing along in harmony. They are an integral part of the show.”
Why so many different languages in the show? “I’ve always loved learning new languages. What can I say, I love a challenge!” says Teresa. She continues, ”Most European artists have no choice but to sing in English, so I thought I should get out of my comfort zone and make the effort to express myself through their languages.”
