The Olympic Games are finally here, with Tokyo’s opening ceremony kicking off tonight to mark what is sure to be a jam-packed 17 days filled with exciting sports, record-breaking sprints, and for the first time ever, a spot for surfing and skateboarding.
While the Games this year will be held without spectators, the opening ceremony is still going ahead as planned in what is sure to be a once-in-a-lifetime event. In light of the missing crowds, the theme for this year’s ceremony is ‘united by emotion’.

WHERE TO WATCH
Throughout the Olympic period, the Games will be broadcasted Australia-wide on free-to-air channels Seven, 7Two and 7Mate. You can also watch the Olympics online on Seven’s streaming platform 7Plus.
The opening ceremony will air tonight on Channel Seven at 8:30pm ACST, or 9pm AEST, so make sure you’ve got your popcorn ready for what is sure to be a spectacular event.
While we don’t know who the final torchbearer will be, rumors continue to swirl that the position will be awarded to either Ichiro Suzuki or Shohei Ohtani – the latest Japanese basketball players to make their way into the NBA.
