This exhibition has some very interesting pieces from a range of artists: Kathryn Oliphant, Ross Wilsmore & Robyn Rankin (paintings) & Andrea Fiebig (glass).
A number of ink on handmade paper by Kathryn Oliphant, a style she is well known for, display organic forms with use of line rhythmic patterns and pleasing, carefully chosen colour combinations. The meandering lines of the works are decorative and pleasing. Kathryn says that her work reflects her travels, and the influence of Asian and some European cultures can be seen in.
The six examples of glassware created by Andrea Fiebig are an interesting body of work, well executed with interesting texture. The recurring curved line motif reminds the viewer of the ripples on water and this is reinforced by the perfectly formed droplet in the piece entitled “Merging Light’ (pictured).
Robyn Rankine chooses her subjects from childhood images of her own children and those of friends. Her paintings have a dream like quality using a colourful primary palette they are painted in a painterly style with animated brush strokes. These are not my favourite as I feel their doll-like faces lack something.
The photographic realism of Ross Wilsmore is displayed well in the eight paintings he has in the exhibition. The images all follow a beach theme with great depth and rich saturated colours. My favourite piece from this showing was Wilsmore’s “The Great Divide”, but all are worth a look.
This is a pleasant selection of works, well displayed.
