Experience a flavourful journey at Coal Cellar + Grill’s exclusive Winter Food and Wine Series

Coal Cellar + Grill at Hilton Adelaide is back for its fifth year of offering a tantalising selection of curated dishes paired with some of South Australia’s most renowned wines over three months.

As the colder months set in, Coal Cellar + Grill at Hilton Adelaide is ready to warm your soul with its highly anticipated Winter Food and Wine Series, returning for its fifth year.  

This limited-time event is a haven for meat and wine lovers, offering a tantalising selection of curated dishes paired with some of South Australia’s most renowned wines. 

“The Winter Food & Wine Series is our unique way of highlighting beautiful seasonal produce, local regions and their great produce and products. The series sparks creativity in our chefs who thoroughly enjoy sourcing unique elements for the series and using a range of cooking techniques,” Michael Bayly who leads the kitchen team at Coal Cellar + Grill says. 

“The Winter Food and Wine Series is always very popular with regular guests as well as new guests who love the experience and quite often return multiple times.” 

Starting on the 1st of June, the Winter Food and Wine Series will unfold over the course of three months, with each month showcasing a unique menu and wine pairing.  

“The dishes put forth during our Winter Food & Wine Series are specially curated as wholesome, heart-warming dishes and this always creates a great atmosphere in the restaurant. Highlighting local regions and their produces in unique and delicious ways; suited perfectly to be enjoyed with a glass or even bottle of wine, paired by our in-house sommelier,” Michael says.  

June kicks off with the Yakitori & Yalumba experience, followed by Tomahawk & Torbreck in July, and culminating in Ribs & Rockford in August. 

The June menu, Yakitori & Yalumba, promises to impress with pancetta wrapped scallops with cauliflower and yakitori tare, perfectly paired with the Eden Valley `21 Yalumba Viognier and Macro Meats kangaroo / yakitori tare, matched with `19 Yalumba Grenache Shiraz Mataro.

July’s Tomahawk & Torbreck menu is a carnivorous delight, featuring unique cuts sourced by Andrew Lontis, a butcher at Hilton Adelaide. The signature 1.2kg Beef Tomahawk for two takes centre stage, served with potato pave, charred broccolini, roast jap pumpkin, béarnaise, jus and chimichurri.  

For those who may be unaware, a tomahawk is a ribeye beef steak with at least five inches of rib bone left intact. The extra-long, handle-looking bone mimics the appearance of a rack of lamb and helps preserve the juices in the city for optimal flavour. The superior cut of meat is known for its impressive marbling (balance of fat), which means it will be a flavour party in your mouth.  

“While our stand out dish is always the signature Tomahawk, this year for the month of July only we will be offering Kerwee’s Kiwami Wagyu Tomahawk with a marble score of 8+ locally and sustainably farmed and sourced from Darling Downs, Queensland,” Michael says.  

In August, Ribs & Rockford will tantalise your taste buds. Sink your teeth into the baby back short ribs or cowboy steak with jalapeno cheese sauce. This mouthwatering combination of flavours is sure to leave you craving more.
