If you’re heading down south this summer for a day trip to McLaren Vale or a relaxing day on one of our most picturesque coastal beaches, you’ve gotta stop by SA icon Rito’s Continental & Cafe and experience some of the finest continental produce and cafe eats this state has to offer.

Located in the southern suburbs of Christie’s Beach, Rito’s Continental has been serving up all manner of fine, rare and hard-to-find global foods for years and is the perfect place to stock up on all those delicatessen essentials for your summer barbecue, your upcoming Moonlight Cinema session with friends, or for a lazy (but delicious) charcuterie board dinner.

A favourite among locals for the past 32 years, Rito’s Continental owner and operator Ayesha is proud to share the unique offerings of Rito’s with South Australians, inviting locals and visitors alike to come and get a taste of what’s available.

‘Delicatessens and food shops have become the new boutiques of the retail world’, says Ayesha. ‘At Rito’s, we’re proud of the wide range of both local and global products we have on offer—a lot of them unavailable at other delis around the state.’

Stocking a variety of different items from all over the world, but mostly European, Rito’s Continental features those hard-to-find products that people can’t get at their local supermarket or grocer.

‘A lot of the time, we have customers coming in, on the hunt for that particular product or item that they’ve grown up with and they love, that their mums, dads or nonnas have always had in their kitchen’, says Ayesha. ‘Whether it’s English, Polish, German or Italian, a particular type of jarred pickle or continental food, we can source these items that people can’t seem to find anywhere else.’

Some of the must-try items that need to be on your shopping list when you visit Rito’s Continental include traditional English and Scottish favourites like Scottish slice and Ayrshire bacon, the famous German smoked ham, and, of course, the wide variety of pierogi flavours on offer—the popular Polish dumpling.

Besides being an expansive delicatessen, Rito’s Continental also serves up delicious coffee on the daily, along with milkshakes, smoothies, breakfast and a selection of sandwiches featuring all produce from their deli.

‘People can come in and stop and enjoy breakfast and lunch in our cafe’, says Ayesha. ‘We have the classics like smashed avo, eggs benny, a breakfast croissant and bacon and eggs on toast, but you’ll also find arguably the city’s best bacon and egg roll!’.

One thing that Ayesha is focused on at Rito’s Continental is supporting local producers where possible, which includes sourcing all their eggs from Fleurieu Free Range Eggs in Mount Compass. ‘If you support local, they support you, and at Rito’s, we have a big emphasis on community, especially those producers from the local Christie’s Beach area.’

Open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm and Saturdays, 8 am to 3 pm, Rito’s Continental is definitely worth making a trip down south for. Not only can you grab all your hard-to-find continental produce, but with the local butcher, seafood shop and supermarket all in the one complex, it’s the perfect place to do your weekly grocery shop or to grab those last-minute gourmet snacks and picnic lunch items on the way to the beach.
