Experience the magic of Japanese contemporary circus with YOAH at Adelaide Fringe

Witness the Australian premiere of Japanese contemporary circus and family-friendly show ‘YOAH’ at this year’s Adelaide Fringe.

This year’s Adelaide Fringe Festival is set to host the Australian premiere of ‘YOAH’—a spectacle that promises to captivate audiences of all ages and presented by Japan’s revolutionary contemporary circus company, CIRQUEWORK.

Running from Friday, 16th February to Sunday, 10th March, the family-friendly show ‘YOAH’ offers a unique blend of traditional Japanese drums, electrifying electro sounds, and groundbreaking digital effects. This innovative production is not your standard circus show but a fusion of various art forms, creating an experience that is fresh, original, and breathtaking for audiences.

CIRQUEWORK, founded by a dynamic group of young circus artists renowned both in Japan and internationally, has redefined the boundaries of circus performance. Their latest creation, ‘YOAH’, epitomises the theme of ‘tradition and innovation’, weaving together acrobatics, dance, music, lighting, and visual effects in ways never seen before in a circus setting.

The cast of ‘YOAH’ is as diverse as the performance itself, each bringing their own unique talents to the stage:

Tsumugi Masui, showcasing her expertise in aerial silk, combines her rhythmic gymnastics background with the flair of Broadway, as seen in the Japanese version of ‘Pippin’. Yusaku Mochizuki, performing with the Mapping Diabolo, is not only a 2015 Juggling World Champion but also gained fame in the United States through his participation in ‘America’s Got Talent’.

Yuya Takatori amazes with his chair balancing act, a talent that brought him acclaim on the Japanese version of ‘Japan’s Got Talent’. Tomohiro Morita, a ball juggling specialist and national champion, is known for his performances in the popular nonverbal theatre ‘GEAR’ in Kyoto.

And lastly, Anthony Weiss, an alumnus of the Montreal National Circus School, has performed globally, including at the Vancouver Olympic Games, and brings his swing trapeze artistry to ‘YOAH’.

YOAH is an exploration of the harmonious blend of traditional art and modern innovation and is the perfect Fringe show for those who appreciate the arts, circus fans, and anyone looking for a unique experience for the whole family.

The fusion of Japanese cultural elements with contemporary circus artistry makes ‘YOAH’ stand out at the Adelaide Fringe, so whether you’re a local or a visitor, a lover of traditional arts, or a seeker of innovative entertainment, ‘YOAH’ promises an unforgettable experience that transcends the ordinary.
