Diwali, India’s Hindu Festival of Light, is here, with streets and homes across South Australia coming to life with rows of colourful lights, the sound of Indian celebratory music, and the much-loved flavours that have become such a rich part of Australia’s diverse smorgasbord of international flavours.
Saunter along the relaxing Marina Pier precinct in Glenelgs’ Holdfast Shores, and you’ll be sure to detect the rich, intoxicating, spice-infused aromas of Indian culinary delights drifting beyond the doors of Kahani Indian Food Trail.
Having opened earlier this year, Kahani’s inaugural Diwali festival will be celebrated with a feast that looks to set a high benchmark for many celebrations to come.
Kahani’s Executive Chef, Vijay Sethi, explains that for many in the Indian community, “Diwali is very special, as special as Christmas is to many of our friends. It’s an exciting time of year that we celebrate with parties, a lot of colour, lights and food. While Diwali is officially celebrated on October 31st, the lead-up to this special day is marked with many days of festivity, food and fun, and we’re excited to welcome anyone into our restaurant who wants to celebrate with us and enjoy the decorations and flavours of this festive season.”
In honour of Diwali, the Kahani team is launching a selection of banquet menus, ranging from a Mini Banquet ($35 per person) to a Mega Banquet ($45 per person) before reaching the pinnacle of Indian taste indulgences, the king-size Maharaja Banquet ($55 per person).

With over two decades of culinary expertise, Vijay has struck a delicious balance in crafting his Kahani Banquet menus to suit an array of preferences, appetites, and budgets.
Each banquet option requires a minimum of four people and includes Street Grills, Mains, and Desserts. At its peak, the selection of dishes will have you eating like royalty, with seafood options added to the Maharaja Banquet.
Some of the dishes featured across all three menus include Chicken Tikka, Cauliflower Koliwada, Butter Chicken, Dal Makhani, Lamb Rogan Josh and Samosa with sides of Padad, Chutneys, and Gulab Jamun for dessert. While the options expand with each banquet, it’s these hero dishes in Indian Cuisine that keep so many coming back for more.
With a view of Glenelg’s lapping waves on one side of the restaurant and Holdfast Shores Marina’s yachts and boats bobbing about on the other, Kahani’s seaside vibes align well with their Oyster Menu. The menu offers a zesty fusion of Australian and Indian-inspired toppings.
Opt for your oysters au natural or explore Kahani’s mouth-watering options, including
- Chilli Mango Salsa
- Pickled Granny Smith Apple and Cucumber
- Masala Panko, Spiced Lemon and Dill Butter
- Lemon Kashmiri Chili Mignonette and Hot Sauce
At only $2.50 per oyster, you can try one, three or all options.
Enjoy some as a light entrée or a delectable accompaniment to a seaside beverage, such as a Kahani Signature cocktail or mocktail.

Want to dip your head into Kahani to catch some of that good Diwali energy but don’t have time for a banquet or languid seaside oyster taste quencher? Then, scoot by and grab a quick bite from their $25 Lunch Menu.
Select one of seven curry options, including Butter Chicken, Ahuna Meat Curry, or Shahi Paneer, served with Rice, Naan, and Gulab Jamun plus your choice of Raita, Pickle or Salad. For an extra $5 you can also relax with a glass of House Wine or Tap Beer.
These mouth-watering menus will extend beyond Diwali’s festivities, partnering with their constantly evolving, dietary-friendly A La Carte menu, which will soon feature more vegetarian and vegan dishes.
