Experience the wonders of our universe up close at the Adelaide Planetarium with its special school holiday program. Guided by experienced astronomers, travel through space to learn about the solar system, constellations, and mysteries of the cosmos.
As rainy weather starts to trickle through, the Planetarium offers plenty of indoor activities to keep the whole family entertained.
Guided by their highly-skilled astronomers, board your imaginary spaceship and travel through our universe to learn about the Solar System, constellations, and mysteries of the cosmos. Marvel at projections of the Sun, Moon, planets and over 5,000 stars from the comfort of your seat and become starstruck as you watch the history of our universe unfold before your eyes.

With the Adelaide Planetarium’s school holiday programs, the Planetarium offers a variety of sessions to keep the whole family entertained. The fun includes an array of movies in the full-dome room such as Black Holes-Journey to the Unknown and Tycho Goes to Mars, you’ll experience movie nights as you’ve never had before.
You could also choose to attend an Advanced Planetarium Experience which includes a full-dome movie and telescope viewing or extend your knowledge in their Journey through the Solar System or Twinkle Twinkle Massive Star session.

Programs on offer:
Tycho to the Moon
This session is recommended for kids aged 4-8, a kids show following Tycho the dog who doesn’t just howl at the moon, he goes there! Kids can follow Tycho has he explains night and day, phases of the moon, space travel, and the lunar surface. An astronomer will guide the children through each constellation, the solar system and beyond.
Planetarium experience with a full-dome movie
This 60-minute experience will take you on a captivating journey across the Universe with a highly experienced astronomer as they guide you through the intricate details of our constellations, this is the perfect experience for the avid astrology fan or somewhere to take the little ones. Tickets are $12 per person.
Twinkle Twinkle Massive Star
When we look up in the night sky, we see a range of small dots in the sky, while our brains may think they are small beams of light, have you ever pondered how big they actually are? Or what would happen to our Solar System if we swapped our Sun for any of these stars? This educational experience aims to answer the interesting questions that you think of when stargazing and to help you learn more about the many stars out there that we see.
Advanced Planetarium experience with a full-dome movie
This immersive guided tour takes you on a journey through time and space, from the comfort of your seat you will journey around the sun and back learning more about our family of planets as you gaze up at the dome. This session also includes telescope viewing after the Planetarium, weather permitting, so you can see with your own eyes the beauty of the constellations. This experience is not suitable for children under seven years of age, tickets are $20 per person.
Black Holes: Bending Space and Time
So naturally you have heard about black holes and the hundreds of scary stories that go with it and movies like Interstellar have made you curious about their mysterious nature. This experience will help you understand what a black hole is, how big it can get and why they are still so unknown.
Space School for Kids
Space School is back and better than ever for this April’s school holidays, but this time, a rare VR experience is set to take you out of this world. This four-hour fun-filled session will teach the little ones all about the solar system as they watch films on the full-dome and participate in fun activities such as making constellations. A drink bottle, snacks and packed lunch required, tickets are $40 per person, this event is for children aged from 7-12.
A Journey Through the Solar System
Sit back and relax as you watch the universe go by, revealing close up the Sun, the Planets and their moons, asteroids and comets, and plunge into the Kuiper belt. Discover the hidden beauty of our celestial home and see it in wavelengths not visible to the unaided eye, this session includes the full-dome movie From Earth to the Universe. Tickets are $20 per person for this session.
