Experience the vibrancy of African culture with ‘Afrique en Cirque’ at Fringe

A vibrant showcase of African culture comes to Adelaide Fringe with family-friendly, acrobatic show ‘Afrique en Cirque’.

Get ready to be mesmerised as the Adelaide Fringe welcomes the spectacular ‘Afrique en Cirque’ in its South Australian premiere, a vibrant showcase of African culture brought to life by the acclaimed artist Yamoussa Bangoura.

Running for the first ten days only of the Fringe, from Thursday the 15th of February to Sunday the 25th of February, this family-friendly, awe-inspiring performance, inspired by the daily life in Guinea, is set to captivate audiences at The Flamingo at Gluttony in Rymill Park.

‘Afrique en Cirque’ is an experience that envelops the audience in the beauty, youth, and artistry of African culture, boasting a vibrant array of colours, not just in its scenery and costumes but in its very essence.

Audiences will be treated to an energetic display of strength and agility as acrobats perform gravity-defying moves and form human pyramids—all set to the rhythmic beats of Afro-Jazz, percussion, and Kora.

Yamoussa Bangoura, the creative force behind ‘Afrique en Cirque’, is a multidisciplinary artist of Guinean origin and the founder of Kalabanté Productions, whose dream of creating a circus school and a company dedicated to African arts has materialised into this breathtaking show.

Bangoura’s journey from studying European circus performers on TV to practising on the beaches of Guinea and eventually joining Guinea’s original circus, Circus Baobab, highlights his deep-rooted passion for the circus arts. His subsequent move to Montreal, Canada’s circus hub, allowed him to hone his craft and develop shows that have gained international recognition.

This production is a celebration of life’s joys, as seen through the eyes of young Africans, and is a unique opportunity for audiences in South Australia to immerse themselves in a different culture and witness a performance that resonates with energy and vibrancy.

‘Afrique en Cirque’ promises to be a highlight of this year’s Adelaide Fringe, and tickets are available now and can be purchased through the Adelaide Fringe website.
