New glass bottom boat tour launched for Whyalla’s annual Giant Cuttlefish phenomenon

View the world’s largest gathering of Giant Cuttlefish through the safety and comfort of a boat that you can see straight through!

Cuttlefish breeding season is fast approaching and as any true South Australian will know, it’s a time of great excitement.

Each year, tens of thousands of the sea creatures migrate through our waters for the sole purpose of reproduction creating a magical underwater display in the process. Male cuttlefish are able to change their colour, shape and texture in a bid to impress a prospective mate which luckily for us, makes amazing viewing.

As the largest mass gathering of Giant Cuttlefish anywhere in the world, the annual natural wonder has captivated people around the globe with even the legend himself, Sir David Attenborough, coming to the shores of the Eyre Peninsula to marvel at the phenomenon which was filmed for his Blue Planet documentary.

But given the time of year and the location, witnessing the show is not for the faint-hearted. Until now. Now you can view the wonder that is under the sea with Cutty’s Boat Tours brand new tour and Glass Bottom Boat! With the ability to see directly beneath you, you will witness this world-class phenomenon in the warmth and safety of the boat.

Leaving from Point Lowly, 25 minutes outside of Whyalla, you’ll be whisked away by your friendly captain who will not only take you directly to the scene of the action but also share their wealth of knowledge on the Cuttlefish and the seas of the Eyre Peninsula.
