Two prominent South Australian tourism operators, Temptation Sailing and Southern Cultural Immersion, have joined forces to create an innovative marine adventure to explore the scenic southern coast of Adelaide.
Setting sail on the 24th of October, the Kauwi Cultural Cruise promises to be an enriching experience highlighting both the cultural and natural beauty of Kaurna Country.
In local Kaurna language, Kauwi means ‘fresh water’.
The idea emerged from a shared passion between the two companies for showcasing Adelaide’s southern coast, after meeting during international promotions of South Australian tourism. Both Temptation Sailing and Southern Cultural Immersion focus on sustainable practices and education, aiming to promote a deep respect for both culture and Country.
The tour will be co-led by a First Nations guide and a Marine Biologist, providing guests with an immersive experience into the rich history and ecological significance of the area. Learn about local dream time stories and the vital role that oceans and landscapes play in the local culture, underscored by breathtaking ocean views.
Corey Turner, the owner of Southern Cultural Immersion and a Kaurna man, expressed his pride in the collaboration.
“We’ve been talking about working together since mid last year, and we’re really proud that we’re going to be able to share Kaurna culture on the ocean,” he said.
“We do lots of bus tour and walking tours, so to add a boat tour into the mix is a really important step – our relationship with Country exists not just with the land, but also with the seas and skies too. I’m glad we’ll be able to share that important connection with everyone on this tour.”
Will Pyke, co-owner of Temptation Sailing, reflected a similar excitement about the educational aspect of the cruise.
“We are so excited to collaborate with Southern Cultural Immersion and host a cultural and educational tour along the beautiful Adelaide coastline,” said Pyke.
His fellow co-owner, Zach Bald, highlighted the uniqueness of the offering, saying, “This is something new and exciting to show a different side of Adelaide as a destination.”
This collaboration marks an important development in local cultural tourism, promising an insightful exploration of the intersection between nature and Aboriginal culture on Adelaide’s vibrant coast.
The Kauwi Cultural Cruise is scheduled to run monthly, with its inaugural trip slated for Monday, October 24th 2024, from 12:30pm to 2:30pm.
