With a history dating back to pre-colonial times, The Port River has served as an important cultural and economic resource for South Australia for centuries and is home to a very important ecosystem. With its very first tour kicking off this weekend, Port River Cruises will be offering a range of journeys allowing guests the opportunity to learn about the rich maritime and cultural history of Port Adelaide and get up close and personal with the friendly locals – by which I mean the dolphins!
Jump on board the 16-seater vessel and embark on a 90-minute journey through the dolphin sanctuary that is home to 30 resident bottlenose dolphins with another 400 that come and go throughout the year. In fact, the Port River dolphins are the only wild dolphins in the world that live within a city and are protected by the 10,000-year-old mangroves that surround the area.
But, it’s not just the dolphins that are a major drawcard for tourists to the area with a number of shipwrecks within the area that lies within a ‘Ships Graveyard’. An estimated 40 abandoned vessels are hidden underwater and within the mangroves in the area and you’ll get an up-close look at four of these during your tour.
The charter is also available for private hire making it a fun and unique setting for your next function.
