Exploring Adelaide’s Cafés: Bond & Lane Canteen

Tucked away from the ever-bustling Goodwood Road, Bond & Lane Canteen is the home-y oasis that everyone needs a morning dose of.

Bond & Lane Canteen is the heart of Salisbury Crescent, Colonel Light Gardens, making the street come alive in the mornings, all the way through to well in the afternoon.

There are always customers sitting outside, catching the first morning light with a cup of coffee in hand and a furry friend gazing longingly upwards in the search for a tasty treat, delivered with a deft sleight of hand.

To say that the café is welcoming of dogs would be an understatement of epic proportion. With space out the front and more tables out back in the sunny courtyard, there’s no room for excuses to leave your pawesome buddies at home.

There’s even a space for the two legged juniors in the back courtyard, with a small play area near the rear garden.

Café owner, Lou Rodwell, regularly brings her dogs in to accompany the regulars and she never forgets a furry face. If you’re lucky, your pupper may even find themselves gracing the hall of fame board… reserved only for the staff’s favourite four-legged friends.

Inside, the walls are lined with eye-catching artwork that showcases the best of Adelaide’s local art scene, adding that extra splash of colour to your coffee. With plenty of seating options available and cosy nooks spread throughout, make it your next group outing spot, or take yourself there on a date.

It’s the perfect atmosphere for a hot cup of self-care, for reading that book that’s been collecting dust on your bedside table, or perhaps catching up on that work you’ve been neglecting for a little too long.

The menu is accommodating of all eaters, with plenty of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options available. Honourable mentions go to the Green Goodness Bowl (quinoa, bok choy, broccolini, hummus, sauerkraut, haloumi and egg optional) and the colourful house made granola, donned in season fruits and alternative yogurts.

Don’t worry, for those who still opt for the classic bacon and eggs option, they certainly know how to cook bacon (10/10 on the crispiness scale).

Hot tip: makes sure to keep your eye on the specials board located further inside, as these are updated regularly and make the best of local, seasonal produce.

If the dog friendliness, artsy décor and groovy menu options aren’t enough to have you already in the driver seat, then perhaps the wines, beers and cocktails on offer will. Bond & Lane Canteen is fully licensed, so all the more reason to kick back in the succulent draped courtyard with some friends, some good food and a cheeky Bloody Mary… or three (we won’t judge).

Make sure to keep an eye out on their socials, as the café starts to move more into the art scene by hosting a variety of in-house workshops, including painting with watercolour and clay sculpting.

So, what are you waiting for?
