‘Express’ brings burlesque back to the stage with sultry, show-stopping production

Showing at the Adelaide Festival Centre for a limited time, Express is a vivacious show of song and dance dripping with luxurious flair.

An Adelaide arts company born from the COVID pandemic continues its unprecedented expansion with the revamped return of Express hitting the Adelaide Festival Centre this July.

Created by South Australian based production company ‘One Eye Open’, Express takes you on a dynamic yet risqué journey through its high-octane performances, show stopping vocals and cheeky yet sultry burlesque flair – all delivered in complete opulence.

“We are so excited to bring Express back to the Adelaide Festival Centre in 2022,” says Express’ Production Coordinator, Pep Rigano.

“We have built this production around the extravagant yet twisted personalities that jump onboard and we can’t wait to share this interactive production.”

Express was first staged to a sell-out season in 2021, but as something markedly different. A more contextual story, improved staging and a bit of burlesque energy now adds extra flair and a risqué feel to the popular show.

The original score for Express is written by Erin McKellar, who won a prestigious Helpmann Academy award in 2020. Featuring 13 local singers, dancers and musicians, the return of Express is to the delight of local fans who can relive the adventure while discovering something different with the new content.

Express played to rave reviews in its opening season, showcasing the high standard South Australian produced shows are known to provide. With Express and other projects, One Eye Open Productions has defied general impacts of the last two years.

Created to support local artists returning home at the peak of the pandemic, the productions and performances have provided work for well-seasoned artists and crew in what was a difficult time for the creative industries.

Audiences are invited to enter the night car and discover the underground charade of lust and romance. A mysterious show that encompasses a variety of vocals, dance, intrigue and visual delight.

Express returns to the Adelaide Festival Centre showing from Thursday 28 July – Sunday 31 July.

Tickets start from $69 and can be purchased here.
