The Girls Rock! Summer Fundraiser will bring local female and non-binary South Australian performers to the stage at the Crown and Anchor for a night of celebration and awareness for the upcoming Girls Rock! Camp in July.
Established in Adelaide in 2019, Girls Rock! is a non-for-profit initiative that aims to support ambitious young female and gender diverse young people in an immersive, safe, inclusive musical space.
The Girls Rock! camp will be a week-long, intensive program open for female, non-binary and trans youth aged 10-17 to learn instruments, participate in a range of creative workshops, as well as a chance to see live bands and form their own.
These camps provide opportunities for attendees to create connections with like-minded youth and receive mentorship from established South Australian female, trans and gender-diverse musicians.
“[The camp] is a great opportunity for attendees to experience an encouraging, empowering space to learn about music and take on things they haven’t done before,” Girls Rock! Co-Director Sianne van Abkoude says. “The Summer Fundraiser will provide us with a chance to raise funds awareness about Girls Rock!, as well as showcase the incredible talent of our volunteers.”
Included on this Friday’s line-up will be Georgia Maq of Camp Cope, Lonelyspeck, Keeskea, Rose Clouseau and Tahlia Jayde.
“Fundraisers are a great way to get everyone involved with Girls Rock! While our programs focus on giving much-needed space to marginalised voices, our fundraisers are an open space where everyone is welcome” states van Abkoude. “We hope this event will encourage everyone to get involved in supporting an exciting and inclusive music scene in S.A.”
The Girls Rock! Summer Fundraiser will be held at The Crown and Anchor (196 Grenfell Street, 5000) at 730PM on Friday, January 17.
This event is presented by Extended Family and Girls Rock! Adelaide. Tickets can be purchased via Moshtix.
