Face painting, African drumming, & fun for the whole family at this SALA launch party Sunday

African drumming by Upbeatz, face painting by Love Birdy, interactive art activities, and free drinks and nibbles on arrival.

Magill’s Pepper Street Arts Centre is set to come alive this July with Wild by Nature, a vibrant celebration of creativity, community, and the wonders of the natural world.

Kicking off on Sunday 27 July at 2pm as part of this year’s SALA Festival, the opening event is shaping up to be a wholesome afternoon for the whole family. The exhibition features mixed media works from 57 artists local to SA, including painting, printmaking, drawing, sculpture, textiles, ceramics and more!

Launch day will host African drumming by Upbeatz, face painting by Love Birdy, interactive art activities, and free drinks and nibbles on arrival.

Everyone’s invited to get in the spirit. Throw on your favourite ‘wild’ fabric or accessory and you might just win a prize. Conservationist Mark Smith from Zoos SA will open the exhibition, bringing a meaningful voice to a showcase that’s all about connecting with nature in fun, thoughtful ways.

Inside, Wild by Nature features a mix of 2D and 3D artworks celebrating the incredible diversity of our planet’s wildlife. From vibrant landscapes to intricate animal portraits, the works explore the delicate balance between humans and the natural world, inviting everyone to pause, reflect, and reconnect.

There’ll be plenty to keep the kids entertained too, with a chance to create their own ‘wild’ animal using ink and watercolour. It’s a hands-on way to bring the exhibition to life, and a great excuse to get a little messy and unleash your inner artist.

Plus, throughout the exhibition season, artist talks and demos will give you a peek into how the pieces come together.

As past visitor Pamela put it, “The most amazing works of art, the best exhibition!!” and artist Terry Izatt said, “Sunday was very interesting and enjoyable.”

Pepper Street’s Alex Thorpe said the exhibition caught global attention, with entries flooding in and some arriving all the way from Singapore! So, you can expect a curated exhibition and the very best show of wild by nature art from our homegrown talent.
