If you’ve wanted to join the masses of hikers at Mount Lofty on the weekends but have been put-off by steep inclines and seemingly unforgiving terrain, we have some good news for you.

The Mount Lofty ranges have welcomed a new walking trail designed for young families and people for reduced mobility to its network.

Based in the Cleland Conservation Park, the Steub Trail is 7km (3.5km one-way) and is classed as a Grade 3 hike.

The family-friendly trail is suitable for walkers, prams, hikers, trail runners and mountain bikers, making it an easier alternative to the Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty Summit hike.

Surfaced with recycled asphalt, the Steub Trail’s undulating terrain spans through the forest woodlands towards Mount Lofty Summit, and offers picturesque views of the wildlife Clealand is famed for.

The track also proves to cater to animal-lovers, as native bandicoots, echidnas and kangaroos can be seen from the track.

Named in honour of Cleland Conservation Park benefactor, Mr Ludwig Reinwald Steub, the trail is the fourth instalment of the hiking network.

Located only one hour from the city, the Adelaide Hills track is also accessible by bus and car.
