Winter is coming! And for most of us, that means complaining about Adelaide’s weather and snuggling up under a warm blanket before binge-watching the latest series on Netflix.
But sadly this is far from reality for some fellow South Australians. An estimated 5,985 people are experiencing homelessness in South Australia alone, and in any given night 1 in 200 people Australia-wide are homeless.
We can’t even begin to imagine how tough it is living without adequate shelter and heating, especially around this time of year. We’re also notorious for leaving old clothes and blankets in the back of the cupboard with the intention of eventually donating them but now we’ve got an incentive to get off our butts. There’s this great initiative started by Goodwood traders Kazbah on Goodwood, Capri Theatre Goodwood and Patio Coffee Roasters, where anyone who’s good enough to donate will receive a free coffee or a 2-for-1 movie ticket.
Simply head to Kazbah on Goodwood and in exchange for donating a piece of warm clothing or a blanket, you’ll receive either a Kazbah hot coffee or a 2-for-1 voucher for Capri Theatre. They’ll do all the hard work and take your donated items to 1 of 3 charities and/or shelters including The Salvation Army South Australia, Vinnies SA or Hutt St Centre.
Any unwanted or unused blankets, sleeping bags, jumpers, jackets, gloves, beanies or any other useful items, as well as monetary donations are more than welcome too.
Kazbah on Goodwood is located at 143 Goodwood Rd, Goodwood. They’re open from 8am to 3pm from Monday to Sunday.
