Fashion Fever set to take over the state at SA Fashion Weekend

SA Fashion Weekend will take place in just over a fortnight, celebrating our great state’s largest creative industry.

The SA Fashion Weekend hosted by the South Australian Fashion Industry Association (SAFIA) is set to be a celebration of our state’s fabulous fashion this weekend.

The inaugural fashion-forward weekend will take place from Friday the 24th – Sunday 26th March 2023 and will showcase South Australian emerging and established fashion, footwear and accessory brands.

“South Australian Fashion Weekend aims to show the beauty and diversity of our burgeoning industry in a way that is accessible to all,” chair of South Australian Fashion Industry Association Helen Jansson says.

South Australia is an incubator for creativity and diversity — and fashion is the largest creative industry in
the State consisting of 1,500 businesses, employing almost 3,000 locals full-time and contributing $218 million to our economy.

“South Australia is home to some of the largest brands sold in Australia and overseas,” Jansson says.

SA Fashion Weekend will take centre stage at the newly completed Festival Plaza at the Adelaide Festival Centre, which is Adelaide’s new heart of entertainment.

The SA Fashion Weekend will kick off on Friday evening with the Black Dress Runway produced by Finesse Models Australia. Then on the Saturday evening SAFIA will present a series of three diverse, accessible, and future-focused runway shows: EMERGE, SUSTAIN, and MOMENT.

The show-stopping runways will be ahead of the curve – featuring modelling talent from a range of cultural nationalities, genders and body types.

Each runway presents a strong feature, from sustainable and ethically sourced brands, creative emerging and TAFE SA graduate collections, to established brands showcasing casual, athleisure and evening collections.

Some of the well-known labels featuring on the runways will be C/MEO Collective, Keepsake The Label, Acler, Brave+True, Nowa The Label, Sunset Lover, Kinney and Daisy Says – The Label.

The runways will give local talent like models, stylists and photographers on a large stage.

Fashion-goers will enjoy live DJs for a party atmosphere, bars and food trucks (with drinks on arrival), gift bags to take home and incredible opportunities to be seen and photographed.

On Sunday there will be a smorgasbord of talent, hosting a South Australian Designer Showcase, whereby designers can showcase, share and sell fashion, footwear, accessories, beauty and lifestyle products from 10am until 4pm at the Festival Plaza.

There will be a list of local designers collaborating with the event as well, including Lakun Mara by Ngarrindjeri, Ngadjuri, Narungga & Wirangu artist Sonya Rankine.

Local artist Tiff Manuell will also be collaborating with the event by reflecting on the design of the original piece for SA Fashion Weekend.

“I love nothing more than creating artwork that helps to evoke positivity and passion,” artist Tiff Manuell says.

Everyone’s invited to the SA Fashion Weekend, so if you’re a lover of the arts or all things glam, then it’s a front-runner for Mad March activities. There will be more information to come about other activities that will be available during the event.
