The East End trader Stentorian has re-opened on Ebenezer Place after a swift makeover and name change to Yudu.
The bespoke leatherwork store re-opened last Friday, with a new range of handmade bags and a line of clothing and footwear supplied from sustainable brands.
The laneway store founded by couple Sarah and Robert Scammell that began as a small leather producer has now been re-branded ready to launch as its own label.
Owner Sarah Scammell said it is her long term goal to grow into a full label.
“We rebranded to Yudu as we wanted to move away from leather being our identity and move towards clothing and footwear to reflect our growth,” she said.
Sarah began leatherwork as a hobby in her back shed in her home at Port Willunga 6 years ago but her eclectic and quirky style soon gained traction.
The couple relocated to Adelaide to open their first bricks-and-mortar store in Ebenezer place in 2018.
The bright, airy tenancy filled with well-crafted wallets, messenger bags, purses, belts and handbags, draw a community of like-minded people who love fashion and the sustainability of handmade products.
“Our ethos is to design our products in Australia and kept everything as ethical as possible,” said Sarah.
“We want to make good decisions as we grow, by partnering with local makers or factories in Australia, ensuring the production of our products doesn’t harm the environment and labour conditions are fair,” she continued.
Yudu has recently launched a new line of designs that is continuing to make waves when it comes to style and high-end fashion.
“Our designs are more out there. We have a squiggle handle-bag which really represents the direction we are going in.”
The newly revamped store has a leather-work space offering an elevated in-store experience for customers, who can see where and how the products are made.
Yudu offers a welcoming presence that makes locals and visitors alike feel at home.
