Are you an Adelaide fashionista? Are you heading over to the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival? Well we have HUGE news for you.
Drumroll please… the stunning and ever intriguing Andreja Pejic will return from New York to attend this year’s Festival as a special guest.
Andreja moved to Melbourne as a child with her mother and brother in 2000 and made her runway debut eight years later aged 17 after signing with Chadwick Models.
Now based in New York, Andreja has shot with the world’s top photographers and has appeared in the Italian, French, Turkish, Australian and Brazilian editions of Vogue. She has fronted campaigns for Jean-Paul Gaultier and Marc by Marc Jacobs and her runway resume includes Jeremy Scott, DKNY, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Paul Smith, John Galliano, Raf Simons to name just a few. Last week she made an exclusive appearance at London Fashion Week in the Giles show alongside Kendall Jenner.
No stranger to controversy, Pejić is a transgender woman, who until 2014 was billed as an “androgynous” male model, self-described as living “in between genders.” In the Paris fashion shows of January 2011, Pejić walked both the men’s and women’s shows for Jean-Paul Gaultier and the men’s shows for Marc Jacobs, and continued to do so at several fashion festivals.
In 2011 Pejić ranked No. 18 on the models.com Top 50 Male Models list and was named one of Out’s Most Compelling People.
In early 2014, Pejić underwent sex reassignment surgery and then July, she spoke about her transgender identity with an interviewer from People Magazine.
During the Virgin Australia Fashion Festival, Andreja will attend the Tiffany & Co. National Designer Award and the Premium Runway presented by Miss Vogue as a special guest, sitting alongside Melbourne Fashion Festival Chief Executive Officer Graeme Lewsey on Monday 16 March. She will also walk in the highly anticipated Grand Showcase featuring Josh Goot on Thursday 19 March, a special show celebrating the designer’s 10th Anniversary.
Graeme Lewsey, Chief Executive Officer of the Melbourne Fashion Festival said he is thrilled to have Andreja as a special guest.
“She is an amazing runway model and her connection to Melbourne, coupled with her international success, made her an obvious choice. She has the ability to inspire others and we can’t wait to have her join us for this year’s Festival and walk in one of the program’s highlight events, the Grand Showcase,” Lewsey said.
Andreja will join a line up of international VIP guests including Derek Blasberg (Editor-at-large US Harpers Bazaar), James Curleigh (President, Levis International) and Ruth Chapman (Founder,MATCHESFASHION.COM).
