LGBTQIA+ arts and cultural festival, Feast Festival, is celebrating a huge milestone this year as it’s 50 years since the decriminalisation of homosexuality in South Australia. Kicking off from November 1st to November 23rd, this festival is marking its 28th anniversary with a packed lineup of events.
This year’s edition of the Feast Festival will be the largest since 2013, featuring 117 events across 67 venues. It will see participation from over 1,500 artists, producers, volunteers, and community members, showcasing a 42 per cent increase in programming and nearly 60 per cent more venues than the previous year. The expansion also includes an increase in regional shows, which is part of the festival’s commitment to accessibility and community engagement.
Tish Naughton, CEO of Feast, shared, “I’m incredibly proud of what we have created in delivering a program that marks a real turning point for the growth of our organisation. Not only have we grown the number of events by over 40 per cent, but we have more free events, more regional reach and more venues than we’ve seen in years.
“At a time where society appears increasingly fractured and intolerant, Feast’s role in bringing together in a safe and joyful celebration of diversity and individuality is more important than ever.”
The festival has been and will continue to be a launch pad for new artistic works, with about half of the 2025 program consisting of South Australian premieres and creative developments. Collaborative efforts like new works by Vitalstatix and the co-funded development between Feast and Adelaide Festival Centre’s inSPACE program are all part of this focus.
One of the crown jewels of this year’s festival is the special dining experience at The Attic at The Kitchen, SkyCity. This unique event, Don’s Table, is a reimagined version of the iconic 1997 Feast Festival dinner party, Erotic Feast.
Plus, with events like the extended Picnic in the Park at Whitmore Square/Iparrityi, featuring live music, market stalls, and a dog show, there’s something for everyone. The Adelaide Queer Film Festival will also offer a plethora of cinematic delights, including several Australian and South Australian premieres.
The festival offers a broad spectrum of activities suitable for various interests and age groups. These include writing workshops, queer pétanque, film screenings, fashion parades, music performances, and many others catering to the diverse tastes of its audience.
Additional festival venues such as the Feast Hub at Payinthi, which will house performances and interactive installations, and various collaborations celebrating Adelaide as a UNESCO City of Music.
This year’s Fest Festival will continue to promote LGBTQIA+ voices and creativity, all while commemorating a historic milestone and celebrating an inclusive cultural landscape in South Australia for years to come.
