Megadrag is a fabulous showcase of South Australian drag artists strutting their stuff alongside national and international talents. From the beautiful to the bizarre, from sexy to sleazy and from the talented to the terrible, Megadrag is a very mixed bag of different skill levels and styles.

Unfortunately unclear audio sometimes made it very difficult to hear which performer was being announced and the bass often sounded unpleasantly distorted, especially in the louder numbers. This did not appear to detract from the audience enjoyment however, with many cheering, clapping and hollering with enthusiasm for each of the performers.

The atmosphere was almost electric as the second artist, Constantina Bush (Kamahi Djordan King) took to the stage and was the first to get the crowd really fired up. Bush was one of the many artist who sang instead of miming, sharing her delightful voice and natural flair for comedy.

Some great effort produced many wonderful costumes and characters, the standout being Cherry Poppens who made a splash with a magnificent Malificent costume and an authorative performance.

Princess Laya from The Mars Bar provided a fantastic rendition of All The Lovers in a beautiful costume of colourful flowers, while Paige Turner was stoic and sang well against a loud and raucous crowd.

The absolute stand out performance of the evening was Odidiva who’s energetic dance moves and Tina Turner style rendition of Rolling on the River got the crowd on their feet for a well deserved standing ovation. Odidiva is here from South Africa presenting her Feast production Bushwaaking and is best known as star of the hit Fringe show Holy House of the Afro.

Other strong performances came from Cybil Disobedience, Raven and Venus Amore and with a line up of over 30 performers there was plenty of variety on offer.

A great selection of music by the artists had the crowd singing and cheering along to Sweet Transvestite from The Rocky Horror Show, Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5 and Redfoo’s New Thang in this colourful and fun demonstration of talent and self expression.
