This October, Hindmarsh Valley’s Lost Phoenix Farm will transform into a celebration of food, wine and community spirit as it hosts Feast on the Fleurieu, a roving long lunch designed to support South Australian businesses impacted by the algal bloom.
The event brings together some of the region’s most loved names in food and wine, including Kuti Shack, Coorong Wild Seafood from Meningie, and SC Pannell + Protero Wines of McLaren Vale. For $100, the afternoon kicks off with a LPS Pipi Gin cocktail on arrival, before moving into a relaxed long lunch of shared feasting, flowing wines, and resident DJs from midday.
“Food connects us all — to where we live and to the people who grow, fish and farm here,” says Andre, co-owner of Lost Phoenix Farm.
“Coming together like this is about showing up for each other and celebrating what makes our region so special.”
The lunch will also highlight the work of Coorong Wild Seafood, which has faced a downturn in demand despite its fishery being largely unaffected by the algal bloom that’s hit other parts of the state.
“The importance of healthy ecosystems should never be underestimated,” says Tracy of Coorong Wild Seafood.
“It underpins the health of our communities. So it’s vitally important that industries, businesses, and communities unite and support each other not just in tough times but at all times. It makes us all stronger.”
Lost Phoenix Farm is set on the former Victor Harbor Winery, with sweeping valley views and a farmhouse-style dining room that’s quickly become a Fleurieu fixture. The long lunch will stretch across its grounds, bringing everyone together in the spirit of solidarity.
“Our community is at its best when we’re working side by side,” says co-owner Will of Lost Phoenix Farm.
“This event is about supporting local businesses and sharing the incredible produce we’re lucky to have right here on our doorstep.”
It’s a chance to rally behind the people who make South Australia’s food and wine scene what it is, and have fun while you’re at it.
“Let’s come together, raise a glass, and support local.”
