Festival Of Ideas Announce New Appointments

SophieBlackheadshotAdelaide Film Festival and Festival of Ideas CEO Amanda Duthie has announced two new key appointments.

Editor and journalist Sophie Black will join the team as the Director of the Festival of Ideas, with curator and visual arts manager Heather Robinson as Associate Director.

Ms Black is a former editor of Crikey and deputy editor of The Reader, and was recently Masters of Journalism Lecturer at the Melbourne University, where she also sits as an Advisory Board member at the University’s Centre for Advancing Journalism.

Recently returned from Los Angeles, Ms Robinson has had a long and varied career in the Arts, working with such organisations as the National Gallery of Victoria, Perth International Arts Festival and the LA Natural History Museum.

Amanda Duthie said today: “The national Ideas Festivals started in Adelaide in 1999 and it has been a power house since – delivering big ideas, marquee guests and thought provoking events. We are thrilled Sophie and Heather will continue this grand tradition by assembling a major contribution to the South Australian festival landscape.”

Sophie Black said: “Adelaide has perfected the art of the festival, and it’s a privilege to contribute to such a prestigious and long running event.

The 2013 Festival of Ideas will be thinking big by picking the brains of some serious thinkers, provoking conversation, inviting solutions and encouraging festival goers to mouth off too.

The Festival of Ideas will be held in Adelaide from October 17-20, joining, for the first time, with the Adelaide Film Festival, which runs from October 10-20.

Programs for both Festivals will be announced in the coming months.
