Audiences are wanted as the time arrives for the first of seven new television pilots to be recorded in Adelaide.
A month ago, we fired up your imagination with the exciting news that seven television pilots are being developed and filmed in Adelaide through comedian Jason Chong’s production company, 1UP Digital.
Called The Black Box Experiment, each pilot is given a month of live shows to fine-tune a weekly television concept based on audience feedback. What an experience it’s been!
Kat Jensen was first in line with Eggplant & Peach, a comical talk show on dating in the digital age. With new topics and guests each week, it’s been extraordinary seeing the show evolve from week one. While the feedback they’ve received each week is not shared with the audience, the changes have been noticeable, from the staging of the show to Kat’s growing confidence and the progressive introduction of technology (for example, moving from cue-cards to a teleprompter in week 3). Every week has been an education and a laugh with topics including our worst first date and talking about sex.
From an audience perspective, having input into the development process of a television show has been a rare and exciting opportunity. It’s impossible to not be proud of Kat, seeing how far she’s come and how receptive she’s been to the feedback. The interactive process has been a journey that has been shared by both the artist and the audience.
The pilot episode of Eggplant & Peach will be filmed this coming Wednesday, 7pm at the Rhino Room in the city. Get along and celebrate the first success story of The Black Box Experiment and be a part of the filming.
From next week, one of Adelaide’s favourite comedians, Big Al (pictured above), takes over the Wednesday night timeslot. With the premiere of his concept, The Gap, Big Al will be bringing a game show back to Adelaide more than 20 years after Wheel of Fortune wrapped up filming here.
Every Wednesday in June, Big Al’s game show will fit big laughs into tiny spaces. Two contestants will be pitted against each other as they try to get inside the mind of a panel of personalities. The are no right answers – in this game only the funniest survive! If you like Blankety Blanks and Cards Against Humanity, you’re sure to love The Gap.
A new, live episode of The Gap will take place at 7pm each Wednesday in the Rhino Room with the pilot episode filmed on the final Wednesday. Each pilot shot as part of The Black Box Experiment will be screened on Channel 44 and used to sell the concept commercially.
With seven months of Wednesday nights set, there’s few excuses for not getting along to show your support!
