Film Review: Jumanji-The Next Level

Our favourite characters are back again in this much anticipated sequel.

All of our favourite characters are back in the much-anticipated sequel to 2017’s Jumanji. Starring Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Rhys Darby, Nick Jonas as Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough and Colin Hanks as Alex Vreeke. But this time it’s even better with the addition of Danny DeVito as Spencer’s grandad Eddie and Danny Glover who plays his life-long friend Milo.

The gang have separated and are now at college. Spencer is living in New York but unhappy and is missing his friendship group.

He returns to town to spend the holidays with his Mum, Grandad and catch up with Fridge, Martha and Bethany.

Spencer goes missing so the gang follow him into Jumanji to rescue him only this time the game has been broken and the avatars are all messed up. Eddie and Milo are players in the game now! Pick-pocket Awkwafina is introduced as a new gaming avatar alongside a beautiful black horse that reveals itself as a Pegasus.

This time the players need to find the Falcon (the Fertility Jewel from the Avian province). A drought befell the land when it was stolen and the jewel needs to be returned to save Jumanji.

Villain Jurgen the Brutal killed Dr Ray Stones parents so the hunt is on to find him, the jewel and show it to the sun.

The future of Jumanji is in their hands!

They land in the vast dessert and soon figure out that their avatars have been changed for this game. Not all is as it was the last-time they were players in the game.

They have to escape a flock of angry ostriches and not with much help from Mouse Finbar.

It’s great to see the characters we love and story develop with beautiful scenery, kickass dancing, nun chucks and a little bit of reggae.

One of my favourite scenes is a magnificent bridge scene with hundreds of angry Mandrills. Very exciting and action packed.

The rhyming riddles from non-player Nigel are inventive as always, and the change of avatar characters brings an abundance of humour to this sequel.

This is a comedic scintillating sequel that I plan to watch over and over again.

Jumanji-The Next Level opens on Boxing Day.
