Film Review: Kath and Kimderella

The Foxy ladies from Fountain Lakes Kath and Kim have moved from being TV stars to the big screen in their very funny "Kath and Kimderella".

The preview screening was jam packed with groups of true fans and they were all rewarded with a 'no-holds-barred' comedy. Directed by Ted Emery, the very clever script was written by the actual geniuses behind Kath and Kim's faces, Jane Turner and Gina Riley. It's filled with all kinds of humour – visual and scripted – with one-liners galore and slick references to everything from politics to wart ointment.

Kath wins a holiday to a tiny Spanish kingdom in the boot of Italy. (The ficticious "Papilloma"!) So she takes her divorced, know-it-all suburban daughter Kim (Gina Riley) and their best friend Sharon (Magda Szubanski) on what they are sure will be an absolute dream.

On arrival they meet the locals: the flamboyant (AND bankrupt!) King Javier (a very funny Rob Sitch) and his somewhat snooty page Alain (Richard E. Grant). Then they come across a young semi-masked fellow who is introduced to them as Prince Julio (Erin Mullaly). Romance – and a Royal wedding – just might arise…

An all-too-short cameo visit by Dame Edna certainly does add to the humour!

Whether you're a fan from the past or are new to the incredible talents of Gina Riley and Jane Turner, Kath and Kimderella has wide appeal, because even thought the characters are extremely exaggerated, there is some truth and sincerity to them. Therefore, this underlying kindness is what draws so many of the audiences to them, as it is a completely familiar ground.

The scenery is stunning and a credit to the filmmakers that they set this outrageous comedy in such a gorgeous location. The grand castle is splendid and it overlooks magnificent views.

While it is not my humour, I was very impressed by how this comedy gives what it promises and the team delivers laugh after laugh for true Kath and Kim fans.

I give it 3/5

If you enjoy the "Kath and Kim" television series, then you'll undoubtedly love this!
