The film follows the entertaining Emilia Clarke who plays Kate – a young lady from Yugoslavia who works as an Elf in a year-round Christmas shop and wears brilliant green elf clogs all the time. She dreams of making a name for herself as a singer at the theatre in London.
Kate has been sick. She is disengaged and down on her luck. She feels like she’s lost a part of herself. Charming Tom played by Henry Golding from Crazy Rich Asians enters her life and they become friends. Tom is always telling her to ‘
Kate leaves work one night in a hurry to make an important audition. The Christmas shop is broken into and thanks to Tom, she starts to see things in a different light.
She wants to make amends with her Mum, Adelia – played by the Emma Thompson, her sister Marta – Lydia Leonard and her boss Santa played by Michelle Yeoh and also some of her friends who have taken her under their wing since her illness and whom she has alienated accidentally.
It’s got all the quintessential elements that make a lovely Christmas movie – London looks stunning and sparkles in all its magical time of year beauty. Heart-warming moments and parts that bring a tear to your eye.
This is a sweet Christmas movie. Emma Thompson is brilliant as always. Emilia Clarke is very engaging and the film has lots of nice moments featuring some great British actors.
