Final free tickets released for Changemakers Summit to unite trailblazing young South Aussies this weekend

The Community Changemakers Summit is open to young people aged 12 to 25 years and will be at SAHMRI on Saturday 27th May.

It’s not often young people have the opportunity to network with local elected members, connect with likeminded trailblazers, learn from expert leaders, and hear from young changemakers who are making huge waves in their communities across the state- But that’s exactly what’s happening this weekend right here in Adelaide.

The Community Changemakers Summit is open to young people aged 12 to 25 years, held at the iconic SAHMRI on Saturday 27th May. Final release tickets are open now, and registration is completely free.

“This is a summit for all young people, wherever they come from and whatever their passion,” said Joshua Stokes, Youth Coordinator at the City of Onkaparinga.

“We are keen to have young people register from across the state who are active in a variety of community or professional areas.”

One of the primary aims of the summit is to build young people’s ability to advocate for issues and influence decision-making. Supported by a lineup of some of SA’s most inspiring young leaders and keynote speakers, the summit will explore a number of key themes and topics, including government and democracy, influencing and leading, and action and sustainability,

Environmental advocate and founder of the SA Youth Forum, Amber Brock-Fabel, will be joined by storyteller and poet Bior Aguer and City of Port Adelaide Enfield Councillor Lazaras Panayiotou. Workshops will be led by young innovators such as editorial coach and published researcher Jena Jaensch, who’s work focuses on gender, conflict, and peace-building.

“All of our keynote speakers are young people who are expert leaders in their fields, an approach that has been requested by our steering group comprising 16- to 25-year-olds across the state,” said Joshua.

“Bior Aguer has just finished a speaking and performance tour interstate and Lazaras Panayiotou has completed an Honours thesis on the short, medium and long-term benefits of providing young people with avenues for meaningful political participation in local government.”

Amber will share her experiences of leading council deputations and hosting meetings with decision-makers across the state whilst Jena will demonstrate how teaching members of under-represented communities to write about their expertise and experiences can amplify their voices.

And the best part? It’s completely free.

Led by the City of Onkaparinga, the summit has been co-designed with young people from across South Australia and with partners including the Youth Affairs Council of SA and Ripple.
