With only a few hours left until the closure of the ballot at 10pm ACST tonight, South Australians have one final opportunity to enter for a chance to secure a Coast is Calling travel voucher. Over 100,000 locals have already thrown their names into the hat, demonstrating massive support for the state’s coastal areas which have been severely affected by the recent algal bloom.
The voucher program is offering a substantial boost for residents and businesses, presenting $100 vouchers for experiences, and $100, $200, and $500 vouchers for accommodation across more than 230 coastal businesses. These businesses are currently participating in the initiative, providing over 500 diverse accommodation and experience options.
Avid travellers and support seekers must be 18 years or over and reside in South Australia to qualify for the drawing of the 20,000 available vouchers. Lucky winners will be promptly notified tomorrow, 23 September via SMS and email. They will receive a unique code to redeem their vouchers during the booking window, which remains open until 24 October.
The timely announcement of the winners allows immediate booking, with the travel period set to commence as early as 24 September and extend until the end of November. This period generously covers the upcoming school holidays and the October long weekend, offering excellent opportunities for winners to plan their trips.
Minister for Tourism, Zoe Bettison, highlighted the overwhelming response from the community and the immediate economic impact expected from this initiative.
“We’ve seen a fantastic response from South Australians eager to support our State’s coastal communities,” said Minister Bettison.
She further noted, “One of the great things about travel vouchers is the economic activity they generate and the impact they create – as we’ve seen through past voucher iterations, for every dollar invested by the State Government, five more dollars are spent in local communities.”
This initiative is part of a broader $28 million support package funded by the South Australian and Commonwealth governments. This package aims to address the impacts of the algal bloom through various strategies including research, clean-up efforts, and strong community and industry support. It also includes significant public information campaigns.
The South Australian Tourism Commission, responsible for delivering this program, emphasises that it enhances ongoing marketing efforts designed to promote the state’s picturesque coastal regions and marine-based tourism businesses.
Participants looking to throw their hat in the ring for the Coast is Calling Voucher program should move quickly, as the registration closes tonight.
As the clock ticks down, residents are encouraged to seize this last opportunity to possibly win and enjoy a memorable South Australian coastal visit, while also contributing to the economic revival of these cherished communities.
