Adelaide golfers are preparing to take their final swings on one of the city’s most iconic fairways, with the South Course at North Adelaide Golf Course closing later this month ahead of a major redevelopment.
A recent member update revealed that Sunday, April 26th, will be the final day of play before the South Course shuts its gates, with construction works scheduled to begin shortly after. From Monday, April 27th, the site will be fully closed to allow for transition works.

The closure is part of a $45 million upgrade backed by the State Government, which will see the course transformed into a world-class golfing destination in time for the 2028 LIV Golf Adelaide event. After debuting in 2023 at The Grange Golf Club, LIV Golf Adelaide has become a showstopping sport and entertainment event on the South Australian calendar.
“Since its introduction, LIV Golf Adelaide has contributed $217 million to South Australia’s economy over three years, with more than $80 million in economic activity to the State in 2025 alone,” shared Premier Peter Malinauskas.
Despite concerns about the league’s future, the tournament is set to take place at the Kooyonga Golf Club in 2027, before its move to North Adelaide in 2028, where it will remain through to 2031. From 2028, the course is also expected to host the women’s Australian Open.

For regular players, the upcoming closure will be the end of an era, at least temporarily. While the South Course will be out of action during construction, parts of the broader precinct will remain accessible. The Par 3 course and sections of the North Course are expected to stay open throughout the works, making sure golfers can still get a round in while the transformation takes shape.
Once complete, the site is expected to look quite different. Plans include a new 18-hole championship course, upgraded practice facilities, and a modern driving range, all designed to cater to both elite competition and everyday players.

The redevelopment is not being positioned as just a sporting upgrade, but as a broader enhancement to the surrounding Adelaide Park Lands. Early plans highlight improved public access, expanded walking and cycling trails, and upgraded amenities aimed at making the space more accessible year-round.
The course redesign is being led by Greg Norman Golf Course Design, with a focus on creating a layout that balances professional-level play with a welcoming experience for casual golfers. Environmental considerations have also been factored into the plans, with commitments to minimise impact on the existing landscape and replant vegetation as part of the project.
The investment is expected to deliver a significant increase to South Australia’s tourism industry. Major events like LIV Golf have already drawn strong interstate and international crowds, and the upgraded course is set to further position Adelaide as a key destination for global sporting events.
“With its stunning Adelaide Park Lands setting, unmatched views and central CBD location, the North Adelaide Public Golf Course will become the best public golf course anywhere in the country,” said Peter.

As for now, the focus is firmly on the final days of play. With just a short window remaining before the South Course closes, locals are being encouraged to make the most of the opportunity. So whether that’s squeezing in one last round or simply enjoying a piece of Adelaide golfing history before it enters its next phase, this is your last chance.
