Collectors of antique gems and fine furniture are sure to find their next prized possessions at du Plessis Auctions as their 2022 season launches.

Collectors of antique gems and fine furniture are sure to find their next prized possessions at du Plessis Auctions as their 2022 season launches this Sunday February 13.

The auction showcases the antiques of a Medindie collector and a Barossa Valley collector, both of whom have been purchasing high quality works from du Plessis for many decades.

du Plessis general manager Marc du Plessis said lovers of fine furniture will be able to get their hands on unique treasure pieces.

“This is an opportunity to confidently obtain quality items collected over a long period by astute collectors or passed down through generations,” Marc du Plessis said.

There will be furniture on offer to suit all spaces and rooms on your home, from display cabinets, chairs and dining tables, to robes and couches. These pieces are of astounding quality, ready to take home and use right away.

Works of art from mid 1900’s right up to modern contemporary living artists will be on offer, with other makings by Picasso, Horace Trenerry , Sir Peter Blake and Romero Britto.

Dating from the 1700’s to late 1800’s, the impressive listings also includes carriages, mantle and longcase clocks. All of these items are in working condition and are waiting to grace your rooms and settings with added personality and style.

Art lovers will be keen to secure an oil painting of the Blue Mountains by Elioth Gruner, a superb oil painting titled “Mitzi” by Norman Lindsay, and exceptionally rare wallpaper samples by the iconic architect and designer, Frank Lloyd Wright.

Collectors will be able to bid for a world class exhibition figured burr walnut and ebony four door bookcase by Lamb of Manchester which is expected to bring over $40,000.

“It is the best English walnut bookcase I have had the pleasure of selling in my 35-plus years,” Marc said.

History enthusiasts will be able to see South Australian Colonial compendium that was owned by Henry Lockett Ayers (son of the Sir Henry Ayers 1821-1897), or the gilt framed Colonial stumpwork picture by Catherine Moss Maughan (wife of Rev. James Maughan 1826-1871).

Whether you’re investing, keen to build your collection of stellar décor or you’re just after a day out, you won’t be disappointed with Sunday’s auction.

“You will find beautiful quality items from the floor to the ceiling and everything in-between made to last generations not just a few years,” Marc said.

While the catalogue can be viewed online here, the auction rooms offer a one-of-a-kind experience with their unique displays.

du Plessis auction will commence at 12 noon on Sunday February 13.

Viewing will take place Saturday February 12 11am – 3pm and Sunday February 13 from 11am.
