The Strathalbyn Antiques and Vintage Fair is returning for another year of showcasing and selling precious items from bygone eras, uniting history and collectible enthusiasts for a two-day fair on Strathalbyn Oval, where avid dealers will set up shop indoors at the oval function centre and Carruthers Hall, with the Rotary treasure market outside on the green. You can look forward to more than 60 stalls, with everything on display from crafted goods to unusual collections, with many of the Fair’s previous dealers re-entering the ring with new and unique finds.
Event organiser Norma Keily says the event is called a treasure market because you never know what’s going to be there, and each year brings new and quirky items that the public may not have seen before. For example, a complete collection of toothbrush holders of all shapes and sizes. Think this fair is just for the golden oldies? Think again, as these events are becoming increasingly popular for youngsters.

“Young people are becoming more frequent amongst the crowds that come in, and they’re just intrigued with things that they probably saw in their grandmother’s house, or just something different, instead of mass-produced stuff that you get in the shop these days,” says Norma, who has been running the event for several years. “Everything is individual and beautifully crafted and design oriented, and just so different to what you can buy today.”
While there won’t be a specific appraiser this year, attendees are welcome to bring their own treasured items for dealers to examine and critique under expert eyes, evaluating the goods and their values. Coffee and food vans will be prepped for the crowds, ready to cater to all your caffeine and snacking needs, so grab a hot doughnut and a steaming cappuccino and take a curious wander down memory lane. You never know what you’ll find.
