Fine Food Cucina expands to Stepney with authentic Italian flavours and Friends-inspired design

Fine Food Cucina has expanded to Stepney, bringing its authentic Italian home-style dishes to a relaxed new cafe space.

A fan favourite Adelaide-Italian eatery, Fine Food Cucina, has recently expanded its family, bringing their authentic, home-style cooking to a brand-new space in Stepney.

Established in 2013 by Dario Fontanarosa, Fine Food Cucina first found its home tucked away in the backstreets of Newton’s industrial estate. The business began as a small cafe and wholesale distribution business, but quickly evolved into a popular spot to get authentic Italian flavours in Adelaide’s north east. The business was built on one simple idea of sharing the nostalgic flavours of their Nonno and Nonna’s kitchen, and now with a second location, they’re carrying this ethos with them.

After more than a decade of serving pastas, grab-and-go meals, and freshly brewed coffee to its loyal Newton crowd, the family-run business is embarking on a new chapter in Stepney. This is Fine Food Cucina’s second location, offering the same authentic experience in a refreshed setting that celebrates the brand’s roots while welcoming new customers.

“We’ve had so many regulars asking for something closer to the city,” shared Zak from the Fine Food Cucina team. “When this Stepney location came up, it just made perfect sense. It’s only ten minutes from the CBD, and now people from areas like Norwood and St Peters can easily drop in for their favourites.”

Just like in Newton, all the grab-and-go favourites will be available. Meals like lasagna, eggplant parmigiana, and handmade cannelloni will continue to be made in-house at the original kitchen, and now they’re also available in Stepney. “We’re all about keeping the tradition and culture the same as it used to be,” Zak explained. “Everything is made for families looking for a good meal but who might be time-poor, always working, or don’t have time to cook.”

The Stepney store isn’t just a replica of the original, it’s an evolution. The venue will be open seven days a week, serving breakfast, lunch, and takeaway meals, all alongside coffee and Italian cakes and treats. The new location also has a renovated upstairs area, designed as a quiet, private escape for meetings, lunches, or small functions.

“It’s got this really relaxed, Friends-style Central Perk vibe, and we can even open up the roof on sunny days.” The space, already affectionately nicknamed Central Cucina, brings a more laid back vibe to the cafe.

Head Chef Adrian, who trained in Milan, brings a tonne of experience and creativity to the kitchen. His eggs benedict is a staff favourite on the breakfast menu, while the bolognese continues to be a go-to at lunchtime.

At its heart, Fine Food Cucina remains true to what it’s always been, a place where food, family, and community come together. The team is all about keeping those traditions alive but making it easy for busy families to enjoy them too. With its blend of tradition and modern convenience, Fine Food Cucina’s new Stepney home is sure to become a go-to destination for authentic Italian made with heart.

Fine Food Cucina Stepney is now open, trading seven days a week.
